Dolphins place right-of-first-refusal tender on Kader Kohou: What this means

The Miami Dolphins, on Saturday, announced they placed the right-of-first-refusal tender on cornerback Kader Kohou. Kohou is set for restricted free agency this offseason, and tendering him essentially keeps it that way. The former undrafted cornerback out of Texas A&M-Commerce who has played three NFL seasons in Miami can sign an offer sheet with another team, but the Dolphins can then match said offer to retain Kohou on the 2025 roster. The value of the right-of-first-refusal tender in 2025 is $3,263,000. Kohou has now locked in at least that much pay next season with the Dolphins, as...

What was falling from the sky over South Florida on Thursday? A space ship — sort of.

Was it a meteor shower over South Florida? A plane on fire? Something extraterrestrial? People in South Florida looked to the sky Thursday night and wondered what the fiery, falling streaks were. After the SpaceX launched its Starship rocket Thursday evening from Texas, on its eighth flight test, it “experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly and contact was lost,” the company said in a post on X. The rocket lifted off just after 6:30 p.m. EST from SpaceX’s Starbase launch site in Boca Chica, Texas. The flight profile called for the Super Heavy booster to fly back to the launch tower...

FAU study reveals how narwhals, the ‘unicorns of the sea,’ explore and play

Many details have remained unknown about narwhals, the elusive tusked whales that dive in the icy waters of Canada’s High Arctic. But a new study from Florida Atlantic University is shedding light on the narwhals’ many explorations, the way they use their tusks to seek out fish, and how they like to play. Greg O’Corry-Crowe, an FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute research professor, spent the summer of 2022 in the High Artic, participating in a team effort to observe the narwhals under the midnight sun. The study, done in partnership with Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans,...

Winderman’s view: So, ugh, Cavaliers next for Heat in playoffs?

CLEVELAND — Observations and other notes of interest from Wednesday night’s 112-107 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers: – Put aside the Heat absences for a moment, if that is possible with so many missing faces on Wednesday night. – And then consider the reality of the Heat’s situation. – Even after this unexpectedly competitive fight. – If they do make it out of the play-in round (which appears to be their postseason starting spot again), then it could be Heat-Cavaliers in the best-of-seven opening round. – Such is what happens when you’re not good enough for a good seeding. – (With the Heat...

Shorthanded Heat fight the good fight, but come up short 112-107 vs. Cavaliers despite Adebayo’s 34

CLEVELAND — For weeks now, Erik Spoelstra has stressed the fight of a team fighting to stay afloat in the wake of the Jimmy Butler trade. That fight, against all odds, was on display again Wednesday night from the Miami Heat at Rocket Arena. What wasn’t on display was enough to overcome the odds in what turned into a 112-107 loss to the NBA-best Cleveland Cavaliers. Not only did the Heat enter 21 /1/2 games behind Cleveland in the standings, but had to take the court in the illness/injury absences of Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Andrew Wiggins, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jovcic. Eventually,...
