Two days after Fort Lauderdale agreed to fight a state order to remove a rainbow pride flag and three other artsy designs painted on a local street, the state fired off a letter listing seven more sites that need to be removed.
The letter, sent Friday at 6:32 p.m. and signed by Florida Department of Transportation District Secretary Steven Braun, gives the city a hearing date of Sept. 15 to make its case for keeping the street art, but warns there will be no change of heart.
Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Steve Glassman suggested the state find better things to do than crack down on street...
Fort Lauderdale will not bow down to the state’s demand that it remove four street art designs — including a rainbow-colored pride flag painted on a street near the beach.
Before a packed house, commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday night to appeal the state’s order to remove the pavement art by Sept. 4 or risk the state removing it.
Mayor Dean Trantalis warned of what might happen if the city were to back down to the state on what he called a draconian order.
“You have to ask, where does it end?” he said. “Tonight we must stand our ground. We cannot be bullied into submission and to...
A group of Boca Raton residents submitted what they said were more than 5,000 signatures to the City Council on Tuesday night in an attempt to adopt an ordinance that could halt a controversial government campus redevelopment plan.

The amendments would require that the city hold a referendum election for any proposal involving the selling or leasing of more than a...

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker appealed to their hearts. Gov. Andy Beshear spoke to their minds.
The senator from New Jersey and the governor of Kentucky both urged Democrats from around Florida to restore their party’s image, offered prescriptions for a resurgence, and inspired inspiration for party activists anguished about what’s happening under President Donald Trump.
Simultaneously, they sought to burnish their political brands through unspoken — but very much present — signals about the 2028 presidential race.
Above all, though in vastly different styles and tones, Booker and Beshear urged...
