FSU commit Ethan Pritchard remains firm with Seminoles, but UCF on his mind

UCF had about 50 recruits on hand Friday night at the Knights’ annual spring game, and several local players expressed their interest in possibly playing at the Bounce House one day. One of those interested onlookers was Ethan Pritchard, a standout linebacker at Seminole High who is currently committed to FSU. “I’m 100 percent committed, but I’m exploring right now,” Pritchard said. Pritchard, who is currently ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the Sentinel’s 2025 Central Florida recruiting rankings, said it’s possible that he could consider joining the Seminole pipeline to UCF. That pipeline has...

UCF softball shut out in series opener against No. 2 Texas

UCF softball coach Cindy Ball-Malone didn’t mince words with her team entering this season. The Knights were coming off an American Athletic Conference championship (2022) and three straight postseason appearances, including an NCAA Super Regional in 2022. But heading to the Big 12, Ball-Malone knew things would be different, especially playing in one of the toughest conferences in the country. “Last year we played well enough to win every game,” said Ball-Malone. “We told them [the players] as a coaching staff that it’s not good enough just to be good and have good people. You have to be good...

UCF coach Gus Malzahn needs to make up his mind about calling plays | Commentary

Head coach Gus Malzahn created quite a flood of discussion and debate a few days ago when he revealed that he will go back to being the chief offensive play-caller next season for UCF. Personally, I don’t understand why there is so much debate about this. Malzahn, after all, has been one of the great offensive minds in college football over the last two decades. However, I do have one question: Why does he keep giving up the play-calling duties and then changing his mind? I hearken back to something another renowned college football play-calling head coach, Steve Spurrier, once told me when...

Johnny Dawkins’ poor-shooting UCF prepares for visit from WVU

UCF basketball coach Johnny Dawkins’ message after every game this season, win or lose, has been that his team is learning and it has to respond to what it has learned with each succeeding challenge. At Houston on Saturday, the Knights failed miserably at one part of the learning process but on another front they responded well. So it’s difficult to judge these Knights (11-6, 2-3 Big 12) as they head into another tough conference game Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home against a revitalized West Virginia squad. Controversial transfer Mikey Williams not allowed to enroll at UCF for months | Commentary The...

College ADs cower in the presence of coaching super-agent Jimmy Sexton | Commentary

Who do you think is the most powerful person in college football? SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey? Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti? NCAA President Charlie Baker? College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock? Influential ESPN commentator Paul Finebaum? Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. You’re not even close. It’s college football coaching super-agent Jimmy Sexton, the man who has literally and legally convinced college athletic directors to sign away mega-millions, if not billions of dollars, in one-sided coaching contracts to his grateful clients over the years. Sports agent Jimmy...

After huge win, UCF gets even bigger news with commitment from 5-star Mikey Williams

Five-star swing player Mikey Williams, the No. 26 player in the nation for the Class of 2023 (247 Sports), has committed to UCF, according to ESPN. Williams, who signed with Memphis last year, never played a game for the Tigers due to a criminal matter involving a shooting outside his San Diego County home earlier last year. He entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday and news circulated Friday that he had committed to play for the Knights. The huge news is coming off the Knights’ shocking 65-60 victory over No. 3 Kansas on Wednesday night at Addition Financial Arena. UCF (10-4) hosts No....

Upset of blue blood Kansas elevates UCF’s profile in red-hot Big 12

UCF’s new quarterback KJ Jefferson is already part of big things going on with UCF athletics. The former Arkansas star and latest addition to the UCF football team was at Addition Financial Arena on Wednesday night, amid the fans who stormed the court after the Knights upset No. 3 Kansas 65-60. “I actually ran out there as well,” Jefferson said. “It was a great atmosphere. It was my first time being in Orlando and my first time at a basketball event [at UCF] and for the basketball team to come out and get a big victory over Kansas was big-time .. the atmosphere was great, I loved it and I can’t...

UCF pulls off huge upset over No. 3 Kansas

The No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks just could not get rid of the pesky UCF Knights basketball team at Addition Financial Arena on Wednesday night. Darius Johnson hit a pair of free throws with 14.8 seconds left before Kansas missed two desperation 3-pointers as time ran out and UCF pulled off the biggest upset in program history with a 65-60 victory over the Jayhawks. Johnson finished with 17 points, Jaylin Sellers had 18 and Ibrahima Diallo had 13 points and played tremendous defense to lead the Knights. It was a far cry from the Knights’ performance in their Big 12 opener at Kansas State on Saturday,...
