Knights get 2025 commitment from 4-star West Palm receiver

UCF football kicked off what is expected to be a busy holiday weekend on the recruiting trail by receiving a commitment from 4-star receiver Waden Charles on Wednesday. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder becomes the 12th commitment the Knights have received for their 2025 recruiting class. A highly touted prospect out of West Palm, Charles originally pledged to Miami on Sept. 10, 2023, but de-committed on May 30. He also had offers from schools such as Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and Michigan. Charles was a dual threat at Palm Beach Central High School, playing receiver and strong safety. He’s...

Knights earn spot in NCAA baseball tourney field for first time since 2017

Kyle Kramer wasn’t sure if he wanted to return for his final season of eligibility at UCF. The right-handed pitcher had spent the previous two campaigns with the Knights heading into the 2024 campaign, but his future seemed uncertain until he spoke with new coach Rich Wallace last summer. “He was like, ‘I’ve been to Omaha. I’ve been to Regionals.  I’ve been to a Super Regional. I’ve been to everything and it’s an awesome feeling to get there,’” Kramer recalled. “Once he said that, it gave me an idea of the kind of future he wanted here, and I like, ‘OK, we’re going to win here.’ “ That future...

College football is idiot-proof and will thrive despite having to pay players | Commentary

Will you please halt all of the hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing? Cease and desist with all of the castigation and consternation. And, for the sake of the late and great Beano Cook, stop with these ridiculous doomsday scenarios that college football is circling the drain now that the NCAA and the power conferences have agreed to allow schools to directly pay players for the first time in the 155-year history of the sport. Believe me, college football will not only continue to survive, it will thrive just as it always has for one very simple reason: It’s idiot-proof. Completely and totally idiot-proof. The...

UCF’s Danny Neri still riding high after 3-homer night in Big 12 tourney

A day after hitting three home runs in his first Big 12 Baseball Championship, UCF catcher Danny Neri was still trying to catch up with friends and family who reached out to congratulate him. One of those to congratulate the senior was ESPN NBA Senior Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, who posted on social media, “Who doesn’t like @DannyNeri39 hitting [bombs]?” “He and my dad grew up together in Bristol, Connecticut,” said Neri. “They’re best friends. My dad was the best man at his wedding, so we stayed in close touch. He comes to visits every once in a while and he’s always asking about baseball and...

Danny Neri made history Tuesday night as the UCF catcher became the first player to hit three home runs in a Big 12 Baseball Championship game, powering the Knights to a 6-5 win over Cincinnati in 11 innings at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. It was the first multi-home run performance for the senior, who came into the tournament with 4. Neri’s third homer — a shot down the rightfield line — in the top of the 11th was the winner and saved UCF, which blew a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning to the Bearcats. The win advances the Knights to the double-elimination tournament,...

The Knights have lost 15 straight to the Seminoles since 2011. Florida State (45-14) scored five runs in the top of the second inning as Amaya Ross opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly. A wild pitch by Knights starting pitcher Kaitlyn Felton (11-6) led to a throwing...

UCF softball set to face Auburn in NCAA Tallahassee Regional

UCF softball earned its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament, with the Knights set to square off against Auburn in the Tallahassee Regional on Friday (2 p.m., ESPNU). It’s the first time in program history that the Knights (30-23, 12-15 Big 12) have appeared in four straight tournaments. The team wrapped up its first season in the Big 12 and was among the last four teams to make the tournament. “It was honestly, really nerve-wracking,” said outfielder Chloe Evans. “I had a lot of faith in this team and was just hopeful that you know what we’ve done this season, and just being...
