CORAL GABLES — The Hurricanes dug an early hole for themselves on Saturday night, and they could not climb out of it. Now their season is in jeopardy.
No. 1 seed Miami (41-20) fell behind No. 2 seed Texas (40-20) 4-0 in the first three innings and could only push across a solitary run, dropping its first regional game at Mark Light Field. The Hurricanes now need to win three straight games to keep their season alive.
Sophomore Karson Ligon struggled in his start Saturday night. Dylan Campell put the Longhorns on the board quickly, smashing a two-run homer to open the scoring in the first inning....
CORAL GABLES — The Hurricanes’ bats came alive in their first game of regional play.
Miami (41-19) jumped out to a seven-run lead in the second and never looked back, burying Maine (32-20) 9-1 in the first game of the Coral Gables regional at Mark Light Field on Friday night.
“Our talk before the game was try to get out in front early,” Miami coach Gino DiMare said. “Couldn’t script it any better.”
The Hurricanes, who entered the postseason seventh in the nation with 112 home runs, hit three more homers Friday. Left fielder Edgardo Villegas got the Hurricanes off to a quick start, driving a...

TALLAHASSEE — The South Carolina softball team used a 5-run fifth inning and scored 4 more in the seventh Saturday night to beat UCF 10-1 and secure a spot in Sunday’s NCAA Tallahassee Regional Final against No. 3 Florida State at the Seminole Softball Complex.
The Gamecocks led 1-0 after stealing home in the second inning and took advantage of costly errors made by the Knights in the fifth to take control of the game.
With the bases loaded and one run already scored in the inning, South Carolina’s Aaliyah White singled up the middle with two outs. As runners rounded the bases, an errant throw...
TALLAHASSEE — Chloe Evans did a little bit of everything for UCF softball Friday night.
The junior transfer from Minnesota went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple while helping the Knights capture a critical first win, 6-1, against South Carolina in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional at the Seminole Softball Complex.
“It doesn’t matter who’s pitching or how hot they are, she’s a tough out,” UCF coach Cindy Ball-Malone said about Evans. “She’ll just keep knocking on their door until something goes through and then when they try to make an adjustment, she does something else.”
The Knights (40-19) struck...

A 4-star transfer on 247Sports.com, Walton ranked as the nation’s No. 91 overall prospect in the portal, according to the recruiting website.
The move, however, comes with controversy.
