Here’s the worst part:
The Miami Hurricanes can only blame themselves.
Oh, it can point at the College Football Playoff committee for voting it out of the playoffs. Miami can say its two losses are less than Alabama’s three and talk about Southeastern Conference conspiracy and NCAA hierarchy.
Maybe that’s true to a degree. But the full truth is Miami let this come down to judges ranking style points and swimsuit competitions because it didn’t do enough at the end of the season to take it out of the committee’s gnarled hands when they should have.
It had a limp schedule, the 55th ranked one...
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — No. 6 Miami started Saturday in control of its own playoff destiny. After losing to Syracuse, the Hurricanes need some help.
Miami will need the College Football Playoff selection committee to look favorably on it and give the team an at-large bid in order to make the 12-team tournament. UM coach Mario Cristobal and quarterback Cam Ward made that case after the loss.
“A lot of stuff going on in terms of the CFP and how they’re going to figure things out, as well,” Cristobal said. “There’s a lot of good football teams out there, and we’re one of them.”
Ward cited the team’s...
The Miami Hurricanes have one game left in their regular season, and they are in a good position to make their first trip to the College Football Playoff. If they win their regular-season finale against Syracuse and the ACC title game against SMU, they are a lock for a playoff berth and almost certainly assured a first-round bye.
After Indiana and Alabama suffered defeats last weekend, the Hurricanes moved up to No. 6 in Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff ranking. Miami is projected to be the No. 3 seed, which would give them a first-round bye. The Hurricanes would play in the Peach...
Unsurprisingly, the Miami Hurricanes took a tumble in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings following their first loss of the season.
Fortunately for Miami, a path to the playoff is still wide open despite falling to No. 9 on Tuesday night after ranking fourth in the initial rankings. UM also fell to No. 12 in other polls on Sunday.
The Hurricanes were seeded fourth as one of the likely Power 4 conference champions. That would give UM a first-round bye.
As long as the Hurricanes win the ACC title, they have a clear path to a first-round bye in the playoffs. If they lose another...
The Hurricanes added a UM legacy Sunday evening.
Cornerback Camdin Portis committed to Miami. But he’s not just a touted defensive back — he’s the son of Hurricanes great Clinton Portis.
The younger Portis is a standout player in his own right. The 2026 cornerback is rated a four-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is listed as the No. 25 cornerback and No. 291 player in his class.
Portis, a Charlotte, North Carolina native, had 18 tackles, 10 pass breakups and two interceptions in 2023. He also holds offers from Florida, Ohio State and Tennessee, among others.
His father,...
MIAMI GARDENS — Mark Fletcher Jr. knelt to the ground in the Hard Rock Stadium end zone and pointed to the sky.
The sophomore Miami running back and American Heritage alumnus took the field with a heavy heart just days after his father, Mark Fletcher Sr., died.
Fletcher scored the No. 6 Hurricanes’ (8-0, 4-0 ACC) first touchdown as they picked up a 36-14 win over scuffling rival Florida State (1-7, 1-6 ACC) Saturday night. The victory was Miami’s first over FSU since 2020 and Mario Cristobal’s first over the Seminoles as UM’s head coach.
After Fletcher scored his emotional, game-opening...
As a college football fan, the initial inclination is to recoil at the very idea of our beloved sport getting into bed with a private equity firm and selling its soul for a massive influx of new cash to help fund the expensive impending revenue sharing with athletes.
The No. 1 objection you always hear is this: “If a private equity firm gets involved by loaning billions of dollars to college athletic programs across the country, then those firms will have the power to tell college athletic directors and presidents how that money would best be spent.”
Question: Is that really such a bad...
TAMPA — The Hurricanes took the Bulls‘ best punch on Saturday night, and they left Raymond James Stadium with their record unscathed.
After a tug-of-war in the first half, No. 8 Miami (4-0) pulled away in the second half and notched a 50-15 win over upstart USF (2-2), which has proven its mettle in closely fought games against both UM and Alabama. The Hurricanes are 6-1 all-time against the Bulls.
South Florida was arguably Miami’s toughest test through the first third of the season, taking the lead from Miami twice in the first half. But the Hurricanes battled back both times before...
MIAMI GARDENS — The Hurricanes gave Cam Ward the keys to the offense, and for the third week in a row, he drove it to another blowout victory.
The Washington State transfer threw for 346 yards and five touchdowns as No. 10 Miami (3-0) rolled to a 62-0 victory over Ball State at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. The Hurricanes set a program record with 750 total yards.
“Progress,” UM coach Mario Cristobal said. “There’s 12 chapters in a regular season and then you earn the rest from there. We’re improving. We’re getting better. We see a lot of areas where we can get better. we have done a good...
The Florida Gators haven’t lost a season-opening game at home since 1989 when, coincidentally, the coach back then – Galen Hall – was fired four games later.
This is not to say Billy Napier will be fired as UF’s coach anytime soon, but Saturday’s humiliating 41-17 season-opening blowout loss to the 19th-ranked Miami Hurricanes at the Swamp certainly didn’t instill much confidence that Napier’s team will be any better this year than it’s been in his first two losing seasons at UF.
“Miami outplayed us and they outcoached us,” a disappointed Napier said afterward. “It’s embarrassing to be...
