Dave Hyde: Time for Boss Ross to shake things up after Dolphins go kaput in Houston

Do it, Steve Ross. Shake up this mediocre Miami Dolphins organization. Make the necessary moves starting with replacing general manager Chris Grier after another disappointing game basically ending another troubling season came down to the Dolphins’ best players not being good enough Sunday. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa twice came to the line in the final few minutes to spot receiver Tyreek Hill in a one-on-one matchup against Houston cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. Twice, Stingley came out with an interception. “It was just not a good ball,” Tagovailoa said of the second interception, the one...

Dolphins get ‘positive feedback’ on Grant DuBose after his scary head injury vs. Texans

HOUSTON — Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose suffered a significant head injury in Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium. In the third quarter, DuBose was running across the middle on a route when Texans safety Calen Bullock collided with him, making helmet-to-helmet contact. DuBose lied motionless on the field for more than 10 minutes as medical professionals attended to him. He had his helmet, jersey and pads removed. A bare-chested DuBose was then strapped down to a backboard and taken off on a stretcher. The team announced, between the third and fourth...

Hurricanes star Cam Ward misses out on Heisman Trophy

Cam Ward was honored as the nation’s top quarterback on Thursday, winning the Davey O’Brien Trophy. But simply being the best quarterback in the country was not enough to secure the sport’s top honor: the Heisman Trophy. Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter won the prestigious award. Ward finished in fourth place, behind Hunter, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel. Ward is the first Miami player to be a Heisman finalist since quarterback Ken Dorsey and running back Willis McGahee were honored in 2002. “You’ve just got to have elite confidence in...

An armed man fled the home, and deputies pursued him to the intersection of Southwest First Street and Southwest 21st Terrace in Fort Lauderdale, next to the Tri-Rail station, Codd said. There, the deputies had an “encounter” with the man, and multiple deputies fired their...

Trump hosts Apple CEO at Mar-a-Lago as big tech leaders continue outreach to president-elect

By ZEKE MILLER and AAMER MADHANI WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Donald Trump hosted Apple CEO Tim Cook for a Friday evening dinner at the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago resort, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to comment publicly. Cook is the latest in a string of big tech leaders — including OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos — who have sought to improve their standing with the incoming president after choppy relations with Trump during his first term. Trump has said he has spoken with Cook about the company’s long-running...

Winderman’s view: Heat’s Nikola Jovic has winning moment in win; will there be more?

MIAMI — Observations and other notes of interest from Thursday night’s 114-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors: — The Nikola Jovic takeover in the second period was about more than Nikola Jovic. — It was about more than his 11 points in the quarter. — It was about a Heat second unit still in search of identity. — Part of that identity was lost with the ankle sprain that has sidelined Pelle Larsson. — Part of it is Terry Rozier still attempting to find his way as a reserve for the first time in years. — Part of it is second-year Jaime Jaquez Jr. not looking anything like first-year Jaime...

Orange you glad Heat win streak at four? Adebayo, Herro lead way past Raptors 114-104

MIAMI — Jimmy Butler made sure this wouldn’t be hair-raising, sporting tightly woven orange braids. So the Miami Heat settled for a bit of four-play, extending their winning streak to four with a 114-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night at Kaseya Center. Avenging a loss the previous time the teams met, the Heat rode the 21 points and 16 rebounds from center Bam Adebayo and the 23 points of guard Tyler Herro and strong supporting contributions to close out a perfect four-game homestand. While it wasn’t always artistic, at least beyond Butler’s hair (more on that later), the...

Miami Hurricanes’ Cam Ward wins Davey O’Brien Award

Hurricanes star Cam Ward earned another major honor Thursday night, becoming the third Miami player to win the Davey O’Brien Award. Vinny Testaverde and Gino Toretta are the two UM players who also have won the award, which is given to the top quarterback in college football. It is far from the only award the Miami signal-caller can win this week. Ward is also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, which will be awarded on Saturday. Ward was also named the ACC Player of the Year by the conference and the AP ACC Offensive Player of the Year.  Ward had arguably the best season for a Miami...

Who has the edge? Dolphins at Texans, in another must-win

Here’s a look at how the Miami Dolphins (6-7) and Houston Texans (8-5) match up in six key areas ahead of Sunday’s Week 15 game at NRG Stadium (1 p.m., CBS): When the Dolphins run: This Miami run game has been in a major funk. In its past five games, the Dolphins have run for: 67 yards, 82, 65, 39 and 44 — the last coming in their win over the New York Jets. De’Von Achane started hot in terms of yards per carry, but he’s now under 4, at 3.9. Achane continues to handle a big workload, with 153 carries. With four games remaining, he already has more than a 50 percent increase in rushing...
