Todd Golden’s Gators open practice seeking rare repeat

GAINESVILLE — Florida has done it before. Coach Todd Golden’s Gators are now trying to do once more what only two other programs have done during the past 50 years: Repeat as national champions in men’s basketball. Since John Wooden’s UCLA dynasty ruled the sport, winning seven straight during the ’60s and ’70s, only Duke (1991-92), UF (2006-07) and UConn (2023-24) have gone back-to-back. Golden’s squad opened practice Monday with a legitimate shot to join those teams. But these Gators are much different than the group that repeated two decades ago with all five starters back from the 2006...

By STEPHEN HAWKINS ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Otto Lopez got three hits, drove in a run and scored another as the Miami Marlins won their sixth game in a row, 4-2 over the Texas Rangers on Sunday in a matchup of teams unlikely to make the playoffs but still mathematically alive with six games left. Hurricane Gabrielle forms, with two disturbances behind it

Hurricane Gabrielle has formed in the Atlantic, several hundred miles southeast of Bermuda. It is expected to turn north and eventually back east and head into the North Atlantic. Gabrielle is only the second Atlantic hurricane of 2025. The other hurricane this season was Hurricane Erin, which formed in August in the Atlantic. It reached Category 5 strength, but stayed out to sea and did not make landfall. “It’s very unusual for a second hurricane to show up this late. In fact, it hasn’t happened since 1994,” Fox Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross wrote on his blog, Hurricane...

Bianchi: Scott Frost schools Bill Belichick in Bounce House beatdown

Bill Belichick didn’t wear his famous hoodie on Saturday, but maybe he should have. Perhaps it would have prevented the severe case of Frost bite he received at the Bounce House. On a humid September afternoon in Orlando, Scott Frost took back his career with a resounding 34-9 victory over Belichick’s North Carolina Tar Heels. Frost didn’t just win a football game; he rewrote the first chapter of a narrative about who he is and what UCF can be. And the irony of it all? He did so by outcoaching the man who for decades was considered untouchable. The genius. The legend. The six-time Super...
