Which smart home devices are actually worth it?

The best smart home devices Not all smart home devices are created equal. The big question to consider is how much of a difference a device will make in your life. Remember that sometimes, in an attempt to make things more convenient, we accidentally create new potential problems. Smart devices that make an everyday activity easier and more convenient or improve your overall safety and well-being are probably worth it. Expensive technology with a gimmick is not worth the trouble. For example, having a smart thermostat that you can more conveniently control and operate is useful and will improve...

Kyle Lowry leads Heat past Cavaliers in Bam Adebayo’s absence 129-96

CLEVELAND – Already two weeks into playing without half of their starting backcourt, the Miami Heat also played Wednesday night at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse without their entire starting power rotation. No Tyler Herro, no Bam Adebayo, no Kevin Love. No matter. In an inspired effort that ended with only nine players available, the Heat pushed past the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-96 for their ninth victory in their last seven games. With two leading men out, point guard Kyle Lowry loaded up on 3-pointers early and kept going from there, closing with a season-nigh 28 points, including seven 3-pointers,...

Winderman’s view: A familiar Heat result – We Have Enough 1, Doubt 0

CLEVELAND – Observations and other notes of interest from Wednesday  night’s 129-96 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers: – We Have Enough 1, Doubt 0. – It’s almost as if this is who the Heat are. – So no Bam Adebayo? – Thomas Bryant and Orlando Robinson step up to the moment. – After barely stepping on the court previously. – Against one of the NBA’s biggest frontcourts, the Heat somewhat managed to stand tallest Wednesday night, as Adebayo rested recurring hip soreness. – So Bryant did enough. – Robinson did enough. – And, yes, the Heat had enough, even on a night there also was no Tyler Herro...

Dolphins’ Hill, Tua, McDaniel highlight ‘Hard Knocks’ debut — along with intense assistant Campanile

HBO series “Hard Knocks” aired its debut episode chronicling the Miami Dolphins for the rest of the 2023 season Tuesday. The stars, of course, were wide receiver Tyreek Hill, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and coach Mike McDaniel. But fans also got an inside look at some lesser-known members of the organization — most notably in the premier episode, linebackers coach Anthony Campanile, who gave an impassioned, intense speech to the team about pursuit in football. The episode also featured the defense’s reward system of cakes for defenders who force turnovers. McDaniel said it was safeties coach...

FSU’s Jordan Travis, UF’s Graham Mertz epitomize football courage | Commentary

At the time, three weeks ago, it seemed a bit out of place when Florida Gators coach Billy Napier began his postgame press conference after a devastating loss to Arkansas with a discourse on the innate quality that is a mandatory prerequisite to playing college football. “It takes courage to play this game,” Napier said. “Courage is giving your best with no guarantee of the outcome you want.” Napier should have added: “Courage is also giving your best with an absolute guarantee of an outcome you don’t want.” Like a devastating injury. Napier’s “courage” speech after the Arkansas game rings even...

Tua committed to eliminating turnovers as Dolphins offense seeks improvement in short-yardage situations

MIAMI GARDENS — Turnovers are on Tua Tagovailoa’s mind. So much so that, twice after the Miami Dolphins’ 20-13 win over the Las Vegas Raiders last Sunday, unprompted, he mentioned he has to limit turnovers in response to interview questions that had nothing to do with them. First, on the field with CBS as he was asked about the team’s shuffling on the offensive line, and then again at the podium responding to a question about the Miami run game. The Dolphins turned the ball over three times Sunday — two on Tagovailoa as he threw an interception and lost a fumble — to keep the Raiders in a game...

By AUDREY McAVOY and BEATRICE DUPUY (Associated Press) HONOLULU (AP) — A U.S. Navy plane overshot a runway and went into a bay in Hawaii on Monday, and when the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department got to the scene, military officials told the emergency workers that all nine people aboard made it safely to shore with no injuries, spokesperson Shayne Enright said. Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer Ryan Fisher said the Coast Guard responded but that rescue operations were quickly called off. “It sounds like all parties involved were rescued,” he said. The P-8A aircraft overshot...
