Florida braced to face LSU star QB Jayden Daniels when Gators visit Tiger Stadium

Florida football’s struggling defense will likely have to face LSU star quarterback Jayden Daniels, after all. After three days in concussion protocol, Daniels was set for a non-contact practice Wednesday, coach Brian Kelly said on the SEC teleconference. Barring any setbacks, Daniels would practice at full capacity Thursday. Kelly did not commit to starting Daniels, the nation’s top-rated passer, over Garrett Nussmeier, the son of former Gators’ offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. But while younger Nussmeier is capable, Daniels is a Heisman candidate. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound senior leads...

Hollywood actors strike is over as union reaches tentative deal with studios

By ANDREW DALTON (AP Entertainment Writer) LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hollywood’s actors union reached a tentative deal with studios Wednesday to end its strike, ending months of labor strife that ground the film and television industries to a historic halt. The three-year contract agreement must be approved by votes from the union’s board and its members in the coming days, but the leadership declared that the strike will end at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday. At nearly four months, it was by far the longest strike ever for film and television actors. More than 60,000 members of the Screen Actors Guild-American...

General Daily Insight for November 08, 2023

General Daily Insight for November 08, 2023 Our idealism could encounter practical challenges throughout the day. Abundant Venus twirls into high-minded Libra at 4:30 am EST, encouraging us to approach life with love and beauty. When she encounters difficult Saturn, however, this optimistic attitude might seem inadequate in the face of serious problems. Thoughtful Mercury then sextiles profound Pluto, helping us strategize around roadblocks. As the vibrant Sun stumbles over touchy Chiron, our own insecurities may turn out to be the biggest limitation of all. We’re more powerful than we think! Aries March...

How can UCF contain Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon? | Analysis

There’s little doubt that UCF’s Achilles’ heel has been its run defense. The Knights are No. 127 out of 133 Football Bowl Subdivision teams after allowing 211.8 rushing yards in their nine games. A closer look shows those numbers grow exponentially against Big 12 competition, with the team allowing 259 yards through six games. Much of those yards have come on plays of 10-plus yards in which UCF has allowed 65. Twenty-two of those runs have been explosive plays (20-plus yards). In the win against Cincinnati last week, the Bearcats had five explosive plays, with one coming in the second half....

19-year-old allegedly fled after hitting pedestrian near NSU campus, police say

A 19-year-old man is facing a second-degree felony charge seven months after he allegedly hit a pedestrian near the Nova Southeastern University campus and drove away before officers arrived, police said. A probable cause affidavit was written in May for the arrest of Vincent Walla, of Staten Island, N.Y., for charges of failing to stop or remain at an accident involving serious bodily injury. The warrant was served Monday, according to court records. At the time of the crash in March, Walla was an NSU student, according to the affidavit. On the evening of March 30, a pedestrian was hit in the...

Winderman’s view: Jaquez, Robinson provide Heat needed support system against Lakers, LeBron

Observations and other notes of interest from Monday night’s 108-107 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers: – Perhaps it meant more against his hometown team. – But Jaime Jaquez Jr. could not have proven any better that he belonged than a pair of early steals when matched up against LeBron James. – Jaquez continues to inject life into the second unit. – But the first-round pick also is best when active. – Not when parked in a corner as a 3-point spacer. – That’s not who he is. – The expectation might have been Jaquez as a placeholder for Caleb Martin, when Martin pushes past his knee issue. –...

Adebayo paces complete Heat effort, even with heartstopping finish in 108-107 escape over Lakers

MIAMI – This was a night the Miami Heat needed, a night to see the possibilities, even while tested at almost every turn by LeBron James. Perhaps not the finish – as heartstopping as it was – but certainly the entirety of the night. So it was Bam Adebayo in all his versatile glory, closing with his seventh career triple-double, with 22 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists. It was Jimmy Butler emerging from an early-season malaise with 28 on 9-of-15 shooting. It was Tyler Herro judicious with his play even while scoring 22. And it was Duncan Robinson providing ongoing sixth-man spark. Most significantly,...

Miami Hurricanes begin season with rout of NJIT

CORAL GABLES — Seven months after concluding the most successful season in program history, the Hurricanes returned to the Watsco Center court and opened the 2023-24 season with a bang. Junior Wooga Poplar paced Miami with 23 points in a season-opening, 101-60 victory over the New Jersey Institute of Technology Monday night. “I thought that was a very good opening night for us,” UM coach Jim Larrañaga said.”A lot of guys played. A lot of guys played well. … We shared the ball very well. We ended up with 23 assists, and we scored the ball from three, from two, in fast breaks. So it was a good...

3 things learned from FSU’s victory at Pittsburgh

By Bob Ferrante Orlando Sentinel Correspondent While not truly a defined step in Florida State’s journey in 2023, the moment wasn’t lost on those Seminoles who had been with the program through the low points: They could now celebrate a spot in the ACC championship game after a 24-7 win at Pittsburgh on Saturday. “I almost want to cry because we’ve put so much work from my first time getting here to where we are now,” redshirt senior linebacker Kalen DeLoach said. “I appreciate all those guys who came in and bought into the process because it wasn’t pretty all the time.” Here are three things...
