With so much uncertainty swirling around the transfer market, UCF football landed its most significant piece of the offseason when 4-star receiver Tyren Hornes signed with the Knights and their 2026 recruiting class on Saturday.
Hornes, a 6-foot, 175-pound standout at Booker High School in Sarasota, announced his decision at the Under Armour All-American Game, where he earned MVP honors. He finished with a game-high 68 yards receiving on three catches with a touchdown.
The South Florida native had 39 offers from schools such as Georgia, Kansas State, Michigan State, Auburn and Ole Miss.

Former Gator DJ Lagway to visit FSU in Seminoles’ quarterback search
GAINESVILLE — DJ Lagway could go from Florida’s quarterback the past two seasons to the signal caller for archrival Florida State.
Lagway’s search for a new school will reportedly land him in Tallahassee Sunday for a visit, and potentially set the stage for a showdown Nov. 28, 2026 in Doak Campbell Stadium.
Lagway announced Dec. 15 he planned to enter the transfer portal when it opened Friday after a disappointing sophomore season with the 4-8 Gators, culminating with a 40-21 rout of the Seminoles Nov. 29 in the Swamp.
Lagway threw three touchdowns against FSU, giving him just 16 in 2025...
Heat streak snapped with 125-115 loss to Timberwolves, with Jaquez sidelined by ankle sprain
MIAMI — The Minnesota Timberwolves showed the value of scoring in triplicate Saturday night at Kaseya Center, volume the shorthanded Miami Heat simply could not overcome.
So so much for the four-game winning streak, with instead a 125-115 loss for Erik Spoelstra’s team, on a night the Heat began in the injury absence of Tyler Herro and Pelle Larsson, one that continued with the Heat then losing Jaime Jaquez Jr. for the night in the first half with an ankle sprain.
Against some opponents, there still might have been enough to persevere.
Against these Timberwolves on this night, not.
Not with...
Winderman’s view: Heat stand tall with power play of their own vs. Pistons
Observations and other notes of interest from Thursday night’s 118-112 victory over the Detroit Pistons:
– Put aside the shooting for the moment.
– Because this wasn’t going to be about the shot making of Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware.
– This was going to be about whether the Heat could hold their own against the Pistons’ incredible bulk.
– Yes, Jalen Duren was lost for the night for the Pistons in the third quarter.
– But by then, the Heat showed they wouldn’t be pushed around by Duren or Isaiah Stewart.
– Who have done plenty of pushing around this season on the Pistons’ pathway to the top...
Heat hold on behind Powell’s 36 for signature 118-112 victory over East-leading Pistons
As he exited Kaseya Center on Monday night, Bam Adebayo said there is no better way to end a year than with a win. Apparently, the Miami Heat believe there is no better way to also start the year.
So make it a four-game winning streak, this time with a 118-112 New Year’s victory Thursday night over the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena.
Against the best team in the Eastern Conference, an opponent that had lost only twice previously at home this season, the Heat got off to the races with their running game and opened their 2026 schedule with arguably their most impressive victory over...
Dave Hyde: Can Troy Aikman save the Dolphins? Steve Ross can only hope
Here’s the news: Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross hired ESPN analyst and Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman weeks ago to consult with him in a search for a general manager, according to a team source.
It is a genuine search, too, one that will cover the league and go wherever needed. Interim GM Champ Kelly will be interviewed like any other candidate. But that’s all he is at this point: Any other candidate.
Coach Mike McDaniel? Ross hasn’t made the decision on his future — or at least he hasn’t shared it inside the team, the source said. But the Aikman hiring involves some murky issues...
Malik Reneau’s 28 points rally Miami Hurricanes past Pitt in ACC opener
MIAMI — Malik Reneau scored 28 points and made all 10 of his free throws as Miami erased a 10-point halftime deficit and defeated Pittsburgh 76-69 on Tuesday night in an Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.
The Hurricanes (12-2, 1-0) trailed 43-33 at the break after Pittsburgh broke out on a 20-0 run, but Miami flipped the game behind Reneau’s work in the paint and at the line. Miami outscored the Panthers 43-26 in the second half and took its first lead of the half on Tre Donaldson’s layup with 14:18 remaining.
Miami used an 8-0 stretch to take the lead for good after a layup...
Winderman’s view: Heat bench sizzles, then suffers as Larsson goes down again
MIAMI – Observations and other notes of interest from Monday night’s 147-123 victory over the Denver Nuggets:
– Why can’t the Heat have good things?
– For that matter, why can’t the NBA?
– With Monday night’s game a prime example.
– No Nikola Jokic in the second half for Denver due to a knee injury, after a typical, MVP-level first half.
– And then at the start of the fourth quarter, the Heat’s Pelle Larsson limping back to the locker room with a sprained right ankle.
– Just three games after returning from a significant sprain of his left ankle.
– Obviously no comparison between Jokic and...
Adebayo returns as Heat extend win streak to three with 147-123 decision of Nuggets, as Jokic goes down
MIAMI – For years, the Miami Heat have been struggling to find a way against the Denver Nuggets.
Entering Monday night’s matchup at Kaseya Center, the Heat had lost 11 consecutive regular-season games to the Nuggets, as well as six consecutive home games to Denver.
And then the Heat found their way, with a 147-123 decision . . . against what was left of the Nuggets.
It was the third-highest-scoring game in franchise history, the seventh time the Heat have reached 140 this season, matching the total over the franchise’s previous 37 seasons.
A game that opened with the Nuggets lacking...

The defending national champion Gators (9-4) built a 32-point lead in the second half and cruised from there despite allowing the Big Green (5-7) to make 12 shots from 3-point range.
Florida had five players score in double figures and closed 2025 with a fourth consecutive victory, the last one coming in the program’s first meeting with Dartmouth.
The Gators open SEC play at...
