WASHINGTON (AP) — It was a routine part of a federal court hearing: The defendant was told not to discuss the case with any witnesses without lawyers present.
But there’s nothing routine about this case. The defendant is Donald Trump, accused of orchestrating a conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 election. The potential witness pool is vast and includes members of the former president’s inner circle deeply involved in his reelection campaign, including some currently on his payroll. His lies about the election — which form the basis of the...

By CURT ANDERSON (Associated Press)
STARKE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man who recently dropped all legal appeals was executed Thursday for the 1988 murder of a woman who was sexually assaulted, killed with a hammer and then set on fire in her own bed.
James Phillip Barnes, 61, was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m. following a lethal injection at Florida State Prison in Starke.
Lying on a gurney, Barnes appeared to already have his eyes shut when the curtain was opened for witnesses. He didn’t respond when prison officials asked if he had a final statement, and he remained motionless except for...

By MICHAEL KUNZELMAN (Associated Press)

She has also ruled against him before.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, a former assistant public defender who was nominated to the bench by President Barack Obama, will oversee the case accusing Trump of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the two months leading up to the...

MIAMI GARDENS — Five times. Or, roughly an average of once a minute. That’s how often new Miami cornerback Eli Apple was asked about his relationship with Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill during Apple’s six-minute, 11-second post-practice interview Sunday.
Yes, Apple, who officially signed with Dolphins on Sunday, replacing injured cornerback Jalen Ramsey (knee), will compete for a starting job as a boundary (outside) cornerback. But we’ll get to the football stuff later.
This is soap opera time.
All told, Apple, the 2016 first-round pick by the New York Giants, was asked 23...
