When Jamichael Stillwell began his basketball career, all the 6-foot-8, 245-pound UCF forward knew how to do was rebound and defend.
Stillwell quickly developed his shooting touch and, throughout much of his career, he was a double-double machine, averaging 13 points and 10.7 rebounds per game at Milwaukee last season.
The junior recorded his first double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Knights to an 87-83 win over visiting Oakland Monday night at Addition Financial Arena.
It was Stillwell’s 17th career double-double and his 20th game with double-digits...

Shanoyd Whyte Jr., 25, is facing a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm in connection with the death of Maurice Harrison, 21, who is known as “Girlalala,” according to a news release.
About 7 p.m. Friday, deputies found Harrison with multiple gunshots in the front passenger seat of a car at a home on Northwest 37th Street after they responded to a medical call, according to a news...
Chris Perkins: Dolphins players won’t ever quit, and you have to like that
For the second consecutive week, I couldn’t be happier for the Miami Dolphins’ players.
Those guys earned Sunday’s gritty, hard-fought 16-13 overtime victory against the Washington Commanders in Madrid, one week after earning an unlikely 30-13 win over the Buffalo Bills, through sweat, commitment and belief.
I’ve always pointed out that this Dolphins team has an unbreakable fighting spirit. I admire that quality. These guys won’t quit, they won’t tank, and they won’t give up. All of that, and more, was on display Sunday.
I’m not certain that this team can win, say, four or five of its last...
Dave Hyde: A win is a win, but why did McDaniel pass on that field goal?
What an odd win. What a strange ending.
What a …
What the …
What was Mike McDaniel thinking?
That’s the question that keeps rattling around Sunday after the Dolphins’ 16-13 overtime win against Washington in Madrid. It’s not the normal question after a win, especially a second-consecutive win in a 4-7 season that could be used to buoy hope of salvaging pride, jobs, momentum — something from this season.
There were some Sunday heroics to talk about, too. Cornerback Jack Jones had the overtime interception to set up the win. Running back De’Von Achane, once again, carried this offense. The...
Hurricanes standout Keionte Scott has ‘heart-wrenching’ injury
MIAMI GARDENS — Transfer defensive back Keionte Scott has been a revelation for Miami’s defense this season, but the Hurricanes may have to play without him for some time.
The senior nickelback suffered a “serious” injury, UM coach Mario Cristobal said after the Hurricanes’ blowout win over N.C. State on Saturday. Scott was wearing a walking boot on his right foot when he was on the field before the game.
“You miss him,” Cristobal said. “It’s a serious injury and it’s one that’s heart-wrenching, gut-wrenching, really.”
Scott, who arrived in the summer after last playing at Auburn, has...
Jake Retzlaff accounts for three TDs as Tulane beats Florida Atlantic 35-24
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Jake Retzlaff threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, Jamauri McClure had 94 yards rushing and a TD on 10 carries, and Tulane beat Florida Atlantic 35-24 on Saturday night.
Tulane (8-2, 5-1 American Athletic Conference) is tied for second in the conference, a half-game behind Navy.
After Tulane went three-and-out, Alec Clark’s 53-yard punt was muffed by Easton Messer and recovered by the Green Wave’s Shaun Nicholas, and on the next play Jimmy Calloway ran for a 14-yard touchdown to open the scoring with 6:38 left in the first quarter.
FAU (4-6, 3-4) answered...
Winderman’s view: Heat on clock for size, after takeover by Knicks’ Towns, Robinson
Observations and other notes of interest from Friday night’s 140-132 loss to the New York Knicks:
– This is not because of the Karl-Anthony Towns first-half takeover.
– Because he has done that to the Heat over the years even when the Heat have been whole.
– Even when Bam Adebayo has been available.
– But lack of size eventually catches up.
– So if Adebayo isn’t available, as he wasn’t again on Friday night at Madison Square Garden, it leaves Kel’el Ware alone in the center rotation.
– Because Nikola Jovic is not a power player.
– Just not.
– No matter how much the Heat’s rotation states...
Heat unable to keep pace with Knicks in 140-132 NBA Cup loss, despite 38 from Powell
MIAMI – The running has been relentless. For that, the Miami Heat have been rewarded in the scoring column.
The rebounding and the defense haven’t been. Because of that, now consecutive losses for Erik Spoelstra’s team and a middling 7-6 record.
Defenseless as they were in Wednesday night’s home loss to an undermanned Cleveland Cavaliers roster, and again punished at critical rebounding junctures, it added up to a 140-132 NBA Cup loss Friday night to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
It was the highest-scoring game between the teams in the Heat’s 38 seasons, the fourth...

BOYNTON BEACH — A fifth man police say was involved in a shooting at a “Peace in the Hood” event in July at Sara Sims Park was arrested Friday.

In September, the Boynton Beach Police Department said it was seeking tips that would lead to the arrest of Edwards and another suspect,...
