If UCF men’s basketball has anything to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, it’s Darius Johnson.
The senior guard scored a season-high 28 points to help spark the Knights past Milwaukee 84-76 on Wednesday night. It was his second consecutive 20-plus-point game after scoring 25 points in a 109-102 loss to LSU on Sunday.
Johnson was 8 of 10 from 3-point range, while the rest of the team shot 21% (3 of 14).
“Darius was terrific. He had a great night,” said coach Johnny Dawkins. “More so than even the points and shooting the basketball, he’s so comfortable in his role now and leading our team....
Winderman’s view: With Rozier back as a spark in reserve in loss, has he found his Heat place?
Observations and other notes of interest from Tuesday night’s 106-103 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks:
– At times Tuesday night, even as Damian Lillard was lighting it up for the Bucks, you could see some of the fits for the Heat.
– Pelle Larsson again injected energy.
– Kel’el Ware entered in the third quarter when Bam Adebayo was in foul trouble and Kevin Love was out with back spasms.
– And then there was Terry Rozier, who returned from his two-game injury absence as a reserve.
– For just the second time with the Heat.
– Playing as seventh man.
– With Erik Spoelstra almost having to go out...
Heat surge from 22 down but lack enough against Bucks, Lillard in 106-103 loss
MIAMI – This is why the Miami Heat put their 2023 offseason on hold.
Because they were on Dame Time.
Dame Time arrived Tuesday night at Kaseya Center.
Scoring 25 of his 37 points in the first half, Lillard helped push the Milwaukee Bucks past the Heat 106-103 at Kaseya Center, on a night the Bucks were without sidelined forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Yes, a fight to the finish from 22 down in the third period. But, in the end, not enough for the Heat to keep pace with Lillard and the Bucks.
It was two summers ago, ahead of his desired departure from the rebuilding Portland Trail Blazers...
Hurricanes climb College Football Playoff rankings ahead of season finale
The Miami Hurricanes have one game left in their regular season, and they are in a good position to make their first trip to the College Football Playoff. If they win their regular-season finale against Syracuse and the ACC title game against SMU, they are a lock for a playoff berth and almost certainly assured a first-round bye.
After Indiana and Alabama suffered defeats last weekend, the Hurricanes moved up to No. 6 in Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff ranking. Miami is projected to be the No. 3 seed, which would give them a first-round bye. The Hurricanes would play in the Peach...

Thompson made 21 saves and has given up two goals or less in seven of his 11 appearances.
The Panthers lost for the sixth time in seven games and have just one win in their last five home games as well. Niko Mikkola got the goal for Florida and...
South Florida man pleads guilty to Medicare fraud; received over half million in kickbacks
A Fort Lauderdale man pleaded guilty in federal court in northern Florida on Monday for his role in a Medicare fraud scheme involving at-home Covid-19 tests, where he received more than half a million dollars in kickbacks, federal prosecutors said.
Kevin Karl Wills, Jr., 48, and a co-conspirator identified in the federal charging document by the initials C.A.S. co-owned and ran Meta Laboratory Consulting LLC, which was based in Lantana in Palm Beach County. Through the company, they solicited “marketers” to illegally receive Medicare beneficiary identifying information, the charging...
Winderman’s view: Heat get it done at closing time against Dallas, finally
Observations and other notes of interest from Sunday night’s 123-118 overtime victory over the Dallas Mavericks:
– This was the game the Heat couldn’t close out against the Kings at home.
– The game they couldn’t close out against the Suns on the road.
– This time, the endgame was the Heat’s game.
– Closer to what happened in Minnesota.
– Which means something.
– Because it’s not as if this team has much when it comes to margin for error.
– It requires the best of Jimmy Butler.
– Check.
– Bam Adebayo stepping up.
– Such as the late defensive stop on Kyrie Irving and then the 3-pointer.
–...
Jimmy Butler seizes control as Heat hold off Mavericks 123-118 in overtime
MIAMI — Jimmy Butler was back in attack mode.
Luka Doncic was missing for the opposition.
It was an advantage the Miami Heat needed.
It was an advantage the Heat seized.
With Butler scoring 33, including the tying basket at the end of regulation and a key basket in overtime, the Heat outlasted the Dallas Mavericks 123-118 in overtime Sunday night at Kaseya Center.
“The efforts are starting to get a little bit more consistent,” coach Erik Spoelstra said.
With the victory, the Heat moved back to .500, at 7-7, and ultimately had enough to offset 27 points from Dallas guard Kyrie Irving.
“I...

Cale Makar and...
UCF’s postseason hopes end with loss at West Virginia
MORGANTOWN, W.V. — Somewhere deep in West Virginia’s hollers under a cold and dismal gray sky, UCF’s season ended.
Sure, the Knights have one game remaining against Utah on Friday, but any hope of salvaging something positive from the unbelievably frustrating season quietly ended in Saturday’s 31-21 loss to West Virginia.
UCF’s slim hopes of making a postseason bowl were squashed after the Mountaineers rushed for 200 yards. This means the Knights are guaranteed to finish with a losing record for the second consecutive year and snap a streak of eight straight bowl appearances.
“You look at...
