Shorthanded Heat bounce back with 106-90 rout of Wizards

MIAMI – The perfect cure for the hangover of a blown 19-point lead a night earlier? The Washington Wizards, right on schedule for the Miami Heat. Against the NBA’s 30th ranked offense and 28th ranked defense, Erik Spoelstra’s team was able to push past the sting of Sunday night’s overtime loss to the New York Knicks with a 106-90 victory Monday night over the league-worst Wizards. Despite five rotation players being out – Kel’el Ware, Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell, Jaine Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jovic – the Heat had enough to close out a 3-1 homestand against a schedule that now stiffens...

Heat regain their offensive footing, load up on 3s in 131-109 victory over Hawks

MIAMI – The post-Jimmy Butler reality for the Miami Heat remains similar to the reality of when Butler still was around: Make your 3s, win the game. So after a dreadful performance from beyond the arc in Monday night’s road loss to the Atlanta Hawks, when his team was 7 of 40 on 3-pointers, Erik Spoelstra this time saw the other side of the equation from his team in a 131-109 victory Wednesday night over the Hawks at Kaseya Center. This time, the Heat not only closed 23 of 42 on 3-pointers, but also received quality support for Tyler Herro, whose 24 points proved enough to help the Heat...

Darius Johnson and Keyshawn Hall combined to score 49 points as UCF defeated Kansas State 80-76 to win back-to-back Big 12 games for the first time since this season. Moustapha Thiam had a career-high eight blocks with 11 points and 10 rebounds. It was the first career double-double for the true freshman. UCF opened the game on an 8-2 run thanks partly to an aggressive defense that converted 3 early Kansas State turnovers into 6 points. The Knights extended that lead to as many as 9 points early in the half as Johnson scored 15 points, highlighted by three 3s. But the Wildcats went a 7-0...
