MIAMI — As expected, a day after opting out of the final year on his previous contract, Kevin Love committed Sunday to a return to the Miami Heat at the start of NBA free agency.
No sooner had the league-wide negotiation period opened at 6 p.m. Sunday, then Love agreed to a two-year contract at around $8 million, after initially bypassing his $4 million option for next season. Love’s new Heat contract, per an NBA source to the Sun Sentinel, does not include an option year.
There had been the possibility of Love, 35, helping to ease the Heat’s crunch against the NBA luxury tax. Instead, he...

Inter Miami, without Messi, hold off Nashville to keep building on MLS’ best record
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Defenders Ian Fray and Jordi Alba scored four minutes apart late in the first half and Inter Miami held on for a 2-1 victory over Nashville SC on Saturday night.
Neither team scored until Fray, making his second start and appearance of the season for Inter Miami (13-3-5), took a pass from defender Julian Gressel in the 40th minute and found the net for the second time. It was the third goal of his career after making seven starts and 11 appearances last season as a rookie. Gressel’s helper was his eighth of the campaign.
Alba added some insurance with a spectacular...

“I felt my lower hammy, just a little bit. We’re going to get an image tomorrow and see what that looks like,” Harper said. “See how I feel tomorrow and go from there.”

DeSantis vetoes bill to regulate vacation rentals
TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday vetoed a measure aimed at regulating vacation rentals, saying the proposal would create “bureaucratic red tape” for local officials.
Oversight of vacation rentals for years has been a thorny issue for the Legislature, as advertising for properties on platforms such as Airbnb has ballooned.
This year’s bill (SB 280) — a priority of Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, R-Naples — also was contentious, with the Senate voting 23-16 to approve it and the House passing it in a 60-51 vote in the waning days of the legislative session.
