UCF quarterback Cam Fancher ruled out for West Virginia game

UCF quarterback Cam Fancher has been ruled out for this Saturday’s game against West Virginia, according to the Knights’ player availability report posted late Wednesday night. Fancher is coming off his second start of the season last week at Cincinnati, where he finished with 333 total yards of offense in a 20-11 loss to the Bearcats. He previously started the season opener against Jacksonville State on Aug. 28 but left the game in the second quarter after suffering an apparent back injury. He was replaced by Tayven Jackson, who led the Knights to a 17-10 comeback win. #UCF listing QB Cam...

TNT Sports brings its college football coverage to UCF

As UCF coach Scott Frost took to the podium for his weekly news conference on Monday, he did so under the watchful gaze of a national television camera crew. This week’s game against West Virginia (1 p.m. Saturday) will air on TNT, TruTV and HBO Max. It’s all part of a new agreement between the Big 12 and TNT Sports. “We were obviously just excited for a partnership,” Drew Watkins, senior vice president and creative director at TNT Sports, recently told the Sentinel. “It’s a great conference with a lot of great teams and a lot of fanfare and we were just excited to bring our TNT sports...

UF overrun at Texas A&M to remain winless on road against ranked teams

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Florida quarterback DJ Lagway’s homecoming ended in disappointment after a hot start as Billy Napier’s Gators failed to complete a Texas two-step and finally beat a ranked team on the road. A 34-17 loss Saturday night at clamorous Kyle Field dropped Napier’s team (2-4, 1-2 SEC) to 0-13 on the road against Top 25 foes and intensified the pressure on UF’s head coach. Napier and the Gators looked to build on last weekend’s decisive 29-21 win against Texas but could not replicate their dominance at the line of scrimmage or unleash true freshman receiver Dallas Wilson. A...

UF defense delivered enough against Arch Manning

GAINESVILLE — Arch Manning likely might have been feeling some deja vu as he departed Florida Field.  In trying to put a forgettable September behind him, the Texas quarterback instead opened his October with another loss. The Gators sank the No. 9 Longhorns in their Saturday SEC opener — and perhaps the playoff chances for a quarterback who once drew comparisons to Florida icon Tim Tebow. For much of the day, the preseason Heisman candidate looked disjointed and failed to create momentum during a 29-21 loss to Florida (2-3, 1-1 SEC). Manning made some plays down the stretch to keep it...

Veltkamp pours in three touchdowns, leads FAU over Rice 27-21

HOUSTON (AP) — Caden Veltkamp threw three touchdown passes and Michael Kirch hauled in two scores as Florida Atlantic held off Rice 27-21 on Saturday. Veltkamp completed 23 of 33 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns, while Kirch caught four passes for 82 yards to lead FAU (2-3, 1-1 American). Asaad Waseem added 89 yards and a 38-yard touchdown reception. Rice (3-3, 1-2) struck first when Quinton Jackson broke free for a 68-yard touchdown run, but FAU answered quickly. Veltkamp found Kirch for a 30-yard score, then connected with Waseem on a deep strike to put FAU up 14-7 in the first...

Hurricanes release first availability report before rivalry game vs. FSU

The Hurricanes’ first ACC availability report came out Thursday evening, listing the player who will not be available for Saturday’s game against Florida State. No starters were listed as being out or questionable for Saturday’s game. Defensive end Hayden Lowe, who UM coach Mario Cristobal said was out for the year, was one of the players listed as out. Defensive lineman Daylen Russell, who has played 14 snaps, was listed as questionable. Running back Jordan Lyle and wide receiver Jojo Trader were not listed on the report. Neither was offensive lineman Samson Okunlola, who suffered a minor...

Todd Golden’s Gators open practice seeking rare repeat

GAINESVILLE — Florida has done it before. Coach Todd Golden’s Gators are now trying to do once more what only two other programs have done during the past 50 years: Repeat as national champions in men’s basketball. Since John Wooden’s UCLA dynasty ruled the sport, winning seven straight during the ’60s and ’70s, only Duke (1991-92), UF (2006-07) and UConn (2023-24) have gone back-to-back. Golden’s squad opened practice Monday with a legitimate shot to join those teams. But these Gators are much different than the group that repeated two decades ago with all five starters back from the 2006...

SEC suspends UF’s Jabbar Juluke for role in LSU altercation prior to Gators’ loss

GAINEVILLE — The SEC suspended Florida running backs coach Jabbar Juluke three games for his role during a pregame altercation prior the Gators’ 20-10 loss at LSU. The league announced Juluke’s suspension Tuesday night ahead of UF’s visit Saturday to No. 4 Miami. “Jabbar Juluke’s conduct during the pregame altercation reflects behavior that is unacceptable and not aligned with the standards of the Southeastern Conference,” commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement. “Coaches are expected to be leaders and to de-escalate tense situations, and that did not happen in this circumstance. This...

What does UCF’s quarterback situation look like against North Carolina?

Scott Frost must be a fan of suspense because the UCF coach isn’t willing to tip his hand when it comes to who will start at quarterback for the Knights against visiting North Carolina on Saturday. There is good news, however, as the Knights could have the services of injured quarterback Cam Fancher. “He’s cleared to practice,” Frost said on Monday. “I don’t know how close he is to 100% yet. We’ll figure that out as the week goes along.” Fancher opened the season as the starting quarterback but has been out of action since suffering an injury at the start of the second quarter of the season...

No. 5 Hurricanes cruise to blowout win over No. 18 USF

MIAMI GARDENS — USF has been one of the upstart teams early in the college football season. Miami put an end to that. Despite a long weather delay, the No. 5 Hurricanes (3-0) rolled to a 49-12 win over the No. 18 Bulls at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, picking up their second top-25 win in the first three weeks of the season. “I think our guys, they didn’t want to be part of the narrative of somebody else’s success, (a) stepping stone kind of season,” Miami coach Mario Cristobal said. “That’s been the story all week. There was a lot of motivation going into this thing — besides the fact...
