With so much uncertainty swirling around the transfer market, UCF football landed its most significant piece of the offseason when 4-star receiver Tyren Hornes signed with the Knights and their 2026 recruiting class on Saturday.
Hornes, a 6-foot, 175-pound standout at Booker High School in Sarasota, announced his decision at the Under Armour All-American Game, where he earned MVP honors. He finished with a game-high 68 yards receiving on three catches with a touchdown.
The South Florida native had 39 offers from schools such as Georgia, Kansas State, Michigan State, Auburn and Ole Miss.

Former Gator DJ Lagway to visit FSU in Seminoles’ quarterback search
GAINESVILLE — DJ Lagway could go from Florida’s quarterback the past two seasons to the signal caller for archrival Florida State.
Lagway’s search for a new school will reportedly land him in Tallahassee Sunday for a visit, and potentially set the stage for a showdown Nov. 28, 2026 in Doak Campbell Stadium.
Lagway announced Dec. 15 he planned to enter the transfer portal when it opened Friday after a disappointing sophomore season with the 4-8 Gators, culminating with a 40-21 rout of the Seminoles Nov. 29 in the Swamp.
Lagway threw three touchdowns against FSU, giving him just 16 in 2025...
Heat streak snapped with 125-115 loss to Timberwolves, with Jaquez sidelined by ankle sprain
MIAMI — The Minnesota Timberwolves showed the value of scoring in triplicate Saturday night at Kaseya Center, volume the shorthanded Miami Heat simply could not overcome.
So so much for the four-game winning streak, with instead a 125-115 loss for Erik Spoelstra’s team, on a night the Heat began in the injury absence of Tyler Herro and Pelle Larsson, one that continued with the Heat then losing Jaime Jaquez Jr. for the night in the first half with an ankle sprain.
Against some opponents, there still might have been enough to persevere.
Against these Timberwolves on this night, not.

US Coast Guard searches for survivors of boat strikes as odds diminish days later
By BEN FINLEY and KONSTANTIN TOROPIN, Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard said Friday it’s still searching for people in the eastern Pacific Ocean who had jumped off alleged drug-smuggling boats when the U.S. military attacked the vessels days earlier, diminishing the likelihood that anyone survived.
Search efforts began Tuesday afternoon after the military notified the Coast Guard that survivors were in the water about 400 miles southwest of the border between Mexico and Guatemala, the maritime service said in a statement.
The Coast Guard dispatched a plane from...
Fans mourn closure of cupcake vending machine company Sprinkles Cupcakes
NEW YORK (AP) — Sprinkles Cupcakes, a company famous for selling sweet treats in vending machines known as “cupcake ATMs,” has shut down after 20 years of operation around the United States, according to its former owner.
“Even though I sold the company over a decade ago, I still have such a personal connection to it, and this isn’t how I thought the story would go,” said Candace Nelson, who started the company after she lost her job in 2005. The closure was announced Dec. 30.
Nelson started Sprinkles Cupcakes in her own kitchen, and the first location was in a small Beverly Hills...
Daily Horoscope for January 03, 2026
General Daily Insight for January 03, 2026
Big feelings collide with steady choices this morning. With the emotional Moon opposing the radiant Sun for a Full Moon at 5:02 AM EST, we’re balancing our more foundational duties versus the responsibilities beyond our door. This contrasting pull increases as Luna opposes combative Mars! We should try to pause before replying to co-workers, neighbors, or family. Once the Moon conjoins expansive Jupiter, we should be better able to respond with care and forgiveness. Freed from stress, we can enjoy empowering evening rituals.

Winderman’s view: Heat stand tall with power play of their own vs. Pistons
Observations and other notes of interest from Thursday night’s 118-112 victory over the Detroit Pistons:
– Put aside the shooting for the moment.
– Because this wasn’t going to be about the shot making of Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware.
– This was going to be about whether the Heat could hold their own against the Pistons’ incredible bulk.
– Yes, Jalen Duren was lost for the night for the Pistons in the third quarter.
– But by then, the Heat showed they wouldn’t be pushed around by Duren or Isaiah Stewart.
– Who have done plenty of pushing around this season on the Pistons’ pathway to the top...
Heat hold on behind Powell’s 36 for signature 118-112 victory over East-leading Pistons
As he exited Kaseya Center on Monday night, Bam Adebayo said there is no better way to end a year than with a win. Apparently, the Miami Heat believe there is no better way to also start the year.
So make it a four-game winning streak, this time with a 118-112 New Year’s victory Thursday night over the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena.
Against the best team in the Eastern Conference, an opponent that had lost only twice previously at home this season, the Heat got off to the races with their running game and opened their 2026 schedule with arguably their most impressive victory over...
Dave Hyde: Can Troy Aikman save the Dolphins? Steve Ross can only hope
Here’s the news: Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross hired ESPN analyst and Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman weeks ago to consult with him in a search for a general manager, according to a team source.
It is a genuine search, too, one that will cover the league and go wherever needed. Interim GM Champ Kelly will be interviewed like any other candidate. But that’s all he is at this point: Any other candidate.
Coach Mike McDaniel? Ross hasn’t made the decision on his future — or at least he hasn’t shared it inside the team, the source said. But the Aikman hiring involves some murky issues...
Trump vilifies Kennedy family hours after Tatiana Schlossberg’s death
No sooner had John F. Kennedy’s granddaughter died of leukemia at age 35, than President Trump got busy dusting off previous social media posts to cast shade at her bereaved family.
Though he didn’t mention the late Tatiana Schlossberg by name or reference her death, Trump harvested screenshots of his supporters’ posts belittling the famous family after his newly handpicked board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts voted to tack the president’s name onto the venue.
The Kennedy family announced Schlossberg’s death on Tuesday from a rare form of leukemia with the simple...
