General Daily Insight for June 09, 2023

General Daily Insight for June 09, 2023 Our thoughts are all subject to change on a day like this. The helpful Moon in Aquarius begins with a potent square to Mercury in Taurus, but then slips into gentle Pisces to rest for a bit. Mercury sextiles mystical Neptune at 5:14 pm EST, making it difficult to see the difference between fantasy and reality. Fortunately, Luna will then conjoin masterful Saturn, helping us use this magical energy in the most productive ways possible. Creativity and responsibility go hand-in-hand. Aries March 21 – April 19 You’ve got your eye on the money, but following...

Jokic, Murray, Nuggets kick sand in Heat’s faces, with 109-94 victory giving Denver 2-1 NBA Finals lead

MIAMI — Homecourt advantage proved fleeting for the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. What was gained with Sunday’s victory at Ball Arena was relinquished Wednesday night at the Kaseya Center, with a 109-94 loss to the Denver Nuggets in the Game 3 of the best-of-seven series. That puts the Nuggets up 2-1 going into Friday’s Game 4 back on the Heat’s court, with each team with up to two remaining home games. Essentially accused by coach Michael Malone of cowering in Game 2, the Nuggets basically arrived to South Florida and kicked sand on the Heat’s faces, closing with a 58-33 rebounding advantage. It...

Winderman’s view: Heat cut down to size, with deficit evident in loss to Nuggets

MIAMI – Observations and other notes of interest from Wednesday night’s 109-94 NBA Finals loss to the Denver Nuggets: – The problem is the same as it seemingly has been during the Bam Adebayo era: – When it comes to Heat defensive length in the power rotation, it’s Bam or bust. – And with a high-IQ opponent such as Nikola Jokic, it means getting past Adebayo is a free pass to the rim. – As it often was Wednesday night. – Because for all the bulk that Kevin Love adds to the mix, he is ground bound. – And for all the athleticism Caleb Martin can provide, he is 6-5. – It was a factor in Game 1. –...

GOP conservatives shutter House to protest McCarthy-Biden debt deal, setting up next budget brawl

By LISA MASCARO (AP Congressional Correspondent) WASHINGTON (AP) — In fallout from the debt ceiling deal, Speaker Kevin McCarthy is suddenly confronting a new threat to his power as angry hard-right conservatives bring the House chamber to a halt, reviving their displeasure over the compromise struck with President Joe Biden and demanding deeper spending cuts ahead. Barely a dozen Republicans, mainly members of the House Freedom Caucus, shuttered House business for a second day Wednesday in protest of McCarthy’s leadership. Routine votes could not be taken, and a pair of pro-gas stove bills...

Former New Jersey Gov. Christie kicks off 2024 Republican presidential bid with swipes at Trump

By JILL COLVIN and HOLLY RAMER (Associated Press) MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wasted no time going after Donald Trump while launching his presidential campaign on Tuesday, calling the former president and current Republican primary front-runner a “lonely, self-consumed, self-serving mirror hog” and arguing that he’s the only one who can stop him. Christie began his run with a town hall in New Hampshire. The former governor and federal prosecutor ran for president and lost to Trump in 2016 and went on to become a close off-and-on adviser before breaking with...

Luis Arraez raises average to .401, Marlins beat Royals for fifth straight win

MIAMI — Luis Arraez had two hits to raise his major league-leading batting average to .401 and help the Miami Marlins beat the Kansas City Royals 6-1 on Tuesday night. After Arraez flew out to left in his first two at-bats, he hit consecutive singles to finish 2 for 4 with an RBI. Jesús Sánchez homered and Bryan De La Cruz drove in three runs. “It is an honor when I see that number on the scoreboard but as I’ve said before it is not impossible,” Arraez...

Ukrainians make desperate escape from floods after dam collapse as shelling echoes overhead

By MSTYSLAV CHERNOV (Associated Press) KHERSON, Ukraine (AP) — As shelling from Russia’s war on Ukraine echoed overhead, dozens of evacuees on an island in the Dnieper River scurried onto the tops of military trucks or into rafts to flee rising floodwaters caused by a dam breach upstream. The unnerving bark of dogs left behind further soured the mood of those ferried to safety. A woman in one raft clutched the head of her despondent daughter. A stalled military truck stuck in swelling waters raised the panic level as Red Cross teams tried to manage an orderly evacuation. Nobody knew just how...

Vegas routs Panthers 7-2 as Panthers’ magic and stars go missing

LAS VEGAS — As the Florida Panthers made their eight-seeded run to the Stanley Cup Final, the three prime factors were Sergei Bobrovsky’s goaltending, Matthew Tkachuk’s dramatic scoring and healthy special-teams play. All three were missing in the desert again in Game 2  of the Final as Vegas routed the Panthers, 7-2, Monday night to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Bobrovsky was replaced in the second period, Vegas is feasting on power plays and, while Tkachuk did score Monday, it was in a 6-1 game with no celebration. Tkachuk’s presence was felt more by a resounding and legal check...

The 35-year-old mother of four was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died. Ocala is about 70 miles (110 kilometers) northwest of Orlando. “I wish our shooter would have called us instead of taking actions into her own...
