Unsealed court records offer new detail on old sex abuse allegations against Jeffrey Epstein

BY MICHAEL R. SISAK, REBECCA BOONE and DAVID B. CARUSO (Associated Press) NEW YORK (AP) — Amid great hype, a court began to release a new batch of previously secret court documents late Wednesday related to Jeffrey Epstein, the jet-setting financier who killed himself in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges. Social media has been rife in recent weeks with posts speculating the documents would include a list of rich and powerful men who were Epstein’s “clients” or “co-conspirators.” There was no such list. The initial collection of around 40 documents made public largely contained...

Florida appeals court rejects minor’s attempt to get abortion without consent

TALLAHASSEE — For the second time in less than three weeks, an appeals court Wednesday rejected a minor’s attempt to have an abortion without notifying and getting consent from a parent or guardian. But the ruling by a three-judge panel of the 1st District Court of Appeal could have broader implications for future requests by minors to receive waivers from a parental notification and consent requirement in state law. The minor, identified by the pseudonym Jane Doe, went to the appeals court after Leon County Circuit Judge Lance Neff turned down her request for such a waiver. In what appears...

‘Hard Knocks’ episode on Dolphins’ loss to Ravens offers dramatic visuals of Bradley Chubb injury

The seventh episode of HBO reality series “Hard Knocks” tracking the Miami Dolphins late in their season covered two devastating losses, the one against the Baltimore Ravens and that of outside linebacker Bradley Chubb due to the torn ACL in his right knee. There were dramatic visuals that were difficult to watch of the moment Chubb went down, clutching his injured knee which will keep him out for the remainder of the season. Chubb was heard telling trainers he couldn’t move the knee with how much pain he was in before being carted off. Defensive tackle Zach Sieler prayed with conviction in...

General Daily Insight for January 03, 2024

General Daily Insight for January 03, 2024 Holding back can be a challenge. Perfectionist Venus disagrees with expansive Jupiter at 5:55 am EST, creating a dilemma between being proper versus daring, and our heightened emotions only add to the confusion. In addition, the sensitive Moon sextiles Venus, indicating that now is the time to act with grace, so bold attitudes may end up embarrassing us. On the other hand, the Moon also squares the confident Sun, making it difficult to stay quiet when we want to break free. Play it cool! Aries March 21 – April 19 Is now the time to speak your mind?...

General Daily Insight for January 02, 2024

General Daily Insight for January 02, 2024 Our emotions might create obstacles. As the expressive Moon squares communicative Mercury, anger and stubbornness could dominate every conversation as our arguments take the wheel! We then experience the Moon facing off with confusing Neptune, making it practically impossible to know if we’re responding to reality — or reacting to our id’s less-than-accurate perception of what’s happening. Thankfully, the Moon escapes the turmoil by entering soothing Libra at 7:47 pm EST. We are capable of balancing our tumultuous emotions. Let’s all take a deep, calming...

Dolphins, possibly without cornerback Xavien Howard, preparing for showdown vs. Bills

MIAMI GARDENS — Resolve is being hardened and focus is being honed as the Miami Dolphins (11-5) prepare for this Sunday’s monumental battle against Buffalo (10-6) at Hard Rock Stadium. “I think that with that bad taste being in our mouth it’s just going to fuel us to be better,” safety DeShon Elliott said in reference to Miami’s 56-19 blowout loss at Baltimore. Lots is on the line this week for Miami. It can win the AFC East with a victory and earn a home playoff game. The best news of all is December is over. The Dolphins are 2-4 in December under coach Mike McDaniel. The defense won’t have...

If FSU and other college stars are getting paid, then they should play in bowl games | Commentary

With apologies to the the legendary Simon & Garfunkel and their iconic song Mrs. Robinson: “Where have you gone, Charlie Wysocki? A college football nation turns its lonely eyes to you — woo, woo, woo.” As I sat in the press box for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl matchup Monday between Iowa and Tennessee, I thought back to the first bowl game I ever attended in this same stadium more than four decades ago. I was a wide-eyed teenager as I excitedly watched the Charley Pell-coached Florida Gators play the Jerry Claiborne-coached Maryland Terrapins in the 1980 Tangerine Bowl. I don’t remember a whole...

Dave Hyde: Splat! Dolphins embarrassed in 56-19 stink bomb in Baltimore

Generally, the worst thing you thought might happen to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday was some player, some unit — some specific part of the greater team — might get embarrassed at Baltimore and cost the top prize of the regular season. What happened instead was everyone got embarrassed. The Dolphins defense watched Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Pompano Beach native, basically cement the league’s MVP award. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s big plays in an offense known for big plays were two interceptions. The special teams gave up a long kickoff return when the script was still in...

Chris Perkins: Success of Dolphins’ season now relies on their mentality more than their physicality

BALTIMORE — Miami Dolphins center Liam Eichenberg was perplexed. He was asked in the solemn postgame locker room whether Miami should stew in Sunday’s 56-19 drubbing by the Ravens in Baltimore, allowing the pain of that brutal beatdown to motivate them for next weekend’s dramatic regular-season finale against Buffalo, or just flush this loss completely and move on to the Bills game. “What a great question,” he said, actually pausing to take time to ponder the inquiry. The Dolphins have to flush this one and rely on their strong mentality to carry them through next weekend’s dramatic finale against...
