Hyde10: Offensive woes, QB problems, here comes the draft — 10 thoughts on Titans’ 31-12 win over Dolphins

Clunk. The Miami Dolphins hit rock-bottom Monday night with the kind of performance right out of the tank year of 2019. Or the 1-15 season 2007. Or any other insufferable season this franchise put up. The previously winless Tennessee Titans beat the Dolphins 31-12 at Hard Rock Stadium in a statement of where the Dolphins season stands. Here are 10 thoughts on the night: 1. Stat of the night: Twelve points. That’s all the Dolphins could muster. That’s one above their NFL-low average this year. Even that came with some trouble as they had only Jason Sanders field goals of 44 and 56 yards and...

Dolphins embarrassed with abysmal offensive performance in Monday night loss to Titans

MIAMI GARDENS — As the Miami Dolphins play a stretch of early-season games without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the season could easily be slipping away from them. Already on their third starting quarterback in four games in 2024, homegrown product Tyler “Snoop” Huntley couldn’t provide much for a struggling offense, and the Dolphins dropped an embarrassing 31-12 decision to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night. The Dolphins (1-3), against the same opponent as last December’s “Monday Night Football” blown-lead debacle, handed the Titans (1-3) their first win. Miami missed out on a chance to...

Hyde10: QB problems, defense’s first quarter, Titans loom again — 10 thoughts on Dolphins’ 24-3 loss at Seattle

There’s bad. There’s ugly. And there’s Seattle 24, Dolphins 3 on Sunday. The team knew it needed help with its starting quarterback out. But help never materialized until Seattle had built the kind of early, double-digit lead every opponent has this season. Here are 10 thoughts on the game: 1. The prime problem Sunday wasn’t Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion. It was the mega-drop in talent to Skylar Thompson. He was effectively given this start last winter when the Dolphins didn’t sign a better backup.  Sure, he beat out Mike White. But there were growing questions in preseason. Still, nothing...

Dave Hyde: Geno Smith, in his winning second act, takes on hometown Dolphins

Damon Cogdell hesitates to say it. “I don’t want to tell people, ‘I told you so,’” he says. The former Miramar High coach remembers saying to be patient more than a decade ago when his quarterback, Geno Smith, struggled in his opening NFL act. He said for everyone to wait, just wait, when Smith then played in just five games in six years with four teams. And now … “I told everyone so,’’ he says. Two quarterbacks come with stories to appreciate Sunday. The Miami Dolphins’ Skylar Thompson is writing his first act in the NFL, trying to step from the shadows in replacing starter Tua Tagovailoa...

Dolphins owner Steve Ross reportedly in new talks to sell stake in team

Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross is again in talks to sell a minority stake in the team and other assets. Ross is in discussions with private equity firms and individuals to sell as much as a 15 percent stake in the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium and F1 Miami, according to a New York Times report Friday evening. A team spokesperson did not immediately return request for comment. Ross, last November, courted talks with fellow billionaire Ken Griffin, but those discussions fell through in April. The Dolphins are valuated at more than $7.5 billion. Ross’ combination of the stadium and F1 grand...

Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa exits game vs. Bills with concussion

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa exited the Thursday night game against the Buffalo Bills with a concussion. Tagovailoa was scrambling for a first down on fourth-and-4 deep into the third quarter at Hard Rock Stadium. As he charged forward, he collided head-first with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Tagovailoa dipped his helmet into Hamlin’s shoulder. Tagovailoa was down for minutes and went into a fencing posture with his right hand up and fingers curly with the left grabbing at his head while he lied on the turf. Teammates gestured immediately for assistance from the...

Dolphins issue statement supporting Tyreek Hill, calling for action against cops involved

The Miami Dolphins released a strong statement Monday night, supporting players Tyreek Hill, Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith after their run-in with Miami-Dade police officers on their drive into Hard Rock Stadium for Sunday’s season opener and calling for action against the cops involved. Sunday morning, Hill, the Dolphins’ star wide receiver was pulled over for a traffic violation that quickly escalated to his detainment and handcuffing. Smith and Campbell were also driving into the stadium around the same time and went over to check on Hill. Police interactions with them grew...
