MIAMI GARDENS — Here’s the Miami Dolphins’ biggest issue right now — there’s nothing they can count on to win games, or even stabilize their team, as they try to right their ship. That’s a lonely, frustrating, empty feeling. The Dolphins can’t even get the most basic things to go correctly.
We saw that on the Dolphins’ final possession of Sunday’s 33-27 loss to the New England Patriots in the home opener at Hard Rock Stadium. They were flagged for a five-yard false start penalty on center Aaron Brewer, a team captain, and one play later they suffered another five-yard penalty for delay of...
INDIANAPOLIS — All of a sudden, in the wake of a disappointing, jaw-dropping season-opening 33-8 loss at Indianapolis, the Miami Dolphins are facing a nearly must-win game in Week 2 against New England.
If the Dolphins lose their home opener next week to the winless Patriots (they lost at home to Las Vegas, 20-13) they’re facing an almost certain 0-3 start.
And then the pressure really would start to build on coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier, and by association, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
The key thing to keep in mind is Sunday’s loss is just one of 17, meaning it’s only...
Tell me you turned it off.
Tell me you saved your Sunday and your sanity.
Tell me you didn’t go the entire, embarrassing distance to witness the Miami Dolphins being penalized for 12 men in the huddle on fourth down from the 2-yard line in the 54th minute of a 30-0 disaster at that point. Twelve men!
And tell me didn’t have to see — after De’Von Achane ran 11 hard yards for their best play and lone score — that Tua Tagovailoa called time-out before running the 2-point play. A timeout? Is that a first in NFL history?
See, they were awful all the way to the very end of this dismal...
In this Dolphins Deep Dive video, the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s Chris Perkins and David Furones discuss Miami’s blowout loss in its first game of the season at the Indianapolis Colts.

MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 14-6, in their preseason finale at Hard Rock Stadium and looked good in the process.
Quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson each led touchdown drives, the defensive front seven produced three sacks (edge rushers Chop Robinson and Derrick McLendon had one apiece and fellow edge rushers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb had a half-sack apiece), and running back Ollie Gordon II (eight carries, 43 yards) had a good night.
By the way, safety John Saunders’ interception with 1:52 remaining means the Dolphins sealed their...
DETROIT — The Miami Dolphins finally traded their views of the Great Lakes for a return near the Atlantic Ocean, and they came back with a 24-17 preseason win over the Detroit Lions.
Now, that’s no indication the Dolphins are anywhere near on par with the Super Bowl-contending Lions. It was mostly backups against backups in Saturday’s exhibition at Ford Field, and Detroit first-teamers certainly showed they have a leg up on Miami in the week’s two joint practices.
But there was a lot to grasp from the week in Michigan and potential for growth for the Dolphins in preparation for the regular...
CHICAGO — After Miami Dolphins linebackers Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson had a physical altercation on a sideline at the team’s joint practice with the Chicago Bears on Friday, they squashed it publicly following Sunday’s preseason opener at Soldier Field.
“Wasn’t no disagreement,” Brooks said in the locker room. “That’s my dog right here, man. Brothers fight all the time. That’s all that was, man — brotherly love, man.”
Dodson chimed in next to Brooks in the locker room: “Anybody got kids, they fight all the time.”
Coach Mike McDaniel’s take Sunday on the matter backed what his players...
For starters, Tua Tagovailoa started. That was good and different. Most Miami Dolphins first-teamers played a bit in Sunday’s first preseason game at the Chicago Bears in a needed change from last August.
Tua starting is most important because he’s the franchise quarterback, he’s fragile and it was unnecessary.
Except coach Mike McDaniel considered it necessary for good reason. If you look at last year’s struggling start to the regular season after Tua and most starters sat most of the preseason, you see why this year is different and Sunday’s work mattered.
“That was the Boss man’s...
Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler always felt the team would come through for him, and they did.
The Dolphins and Sieler agreed on a three-year contract extension worth up to $67.75 million and with $44 million in guarantees Sunday evening, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus.
Sieler last was at the negotiating table with the Dolphins ahead of the 2023 season, and it got him his previous deal, at $10.25 million in average annual value.
That figure ranked 29th among defensive tackles in the NFL as he outplayed the contract.
Sieler had 10-sack seasons in both 2023 and 2024, making him...
