Spanish River’s girls’ softball team capped off an improbable run by winning the FHSAA Class 7A state championship on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 victory over Tampa Plant at Legends Way Ball Fields in Clermont.
The Sharks (17-8-1) entered the final four ranked 94th overall in Florida and 23rd in Class 7A.

Both King’s Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas both came up short in their FHSAA state beach volleyball appearances at FSU Beach Volleyball Courts in Tallahassee.
King’s Academy (19-1) ranked No. 6 nationally by MaxPreps, downed St. John Paul Lutheran 4-1 in the first round before falling 3-2 to Vero Beach (15-2) in the state quarterfinals.
