FORT LAUDERDALE — The St. Thomas Aquinas girls volleyball team is heading back to the state final four as the host Raiders cruised past West Boca Raton 25-10, 25-13, 25-13 in a Class 6A regional final on Wednesday night.
St. Thomas Aquinas (26-4) advances to the Class 6A state semifinal at Polk State College in Winter Haven on Nov. 6. The Raiders, which have won 15 straight matches and swept opponents in seven consecutive matches, will be searching for their third consecutive state championship. The Raiders girls volleyball program has captured eight state titles in school history.

The Chaminade-Madonna Lions (4-1) secured a commanding 56-0 victory over Western (1-4) in their first home game of the season. With a breakout performance by freshman quarterback Malik Leonard, who accounted for five passing touchdowns. The nationally ranked Lions’ offense was unstoppable, while the defense posted a shutout, limiting Western to just 66 total yards.

Braylen Bennett lit up the track scene this year for American Heritage.
The Patriots junior, who was instrumental in the school winning the 4A state football championship in the fall, closed out his junior campaign with three more state championship medals in track.
“I think the season was good,” said Bennett, who came back from a hip injury in his freshman year that plagued him through last year as well, forcing him to continue with physical therapy. “As this season went on, my times kept dropping. I felt I was getting better, stronger, and faster by the end.”

The King’s Academy boys volleyball team captured its first state championship in school history with a 25-14, 25-14, 27-25 victory against SLAM (Tampa) in the Class 1A state championship at Polk State College in Winter Haven on Saturday afternoon.
King’s Academy (22-5) had a dominant performance in the first set. It jumped out to a 7-1 advantage, extended the lead to 19-9 and won by 11. The Lions had a 15-12 advantage in the second set and finished strong with a 10-2 run. King’s Academy trailed 25-24 in the third set before rallying for the final three points to earn the victory.
