Hyde5: Panthers must wait, as Toronto’s ‘Core Four’ get on board to avoid sweep

When Matthew Tkachuk’s shot slid free behind Toronto goalie Joseph Woll midway through the third period and Sam Reinhart shoved it in the net, the question if it would be the start of another Florida Panthers’ comeback that’s defined their playoff path. Not this game. Not this night. Not against a Toronto team that survived with a 2-1 win Wednesday night to get the series back to Canada for Friday’s Game 5. It’s still the Panthers series, up 3-1. And the fact only four NHL teams have ever rallied from an 0-3 deficit remains relevant. There’s a crack of hope for Toronto, though. The Panthers,...

Here’s what you need to know.Inflation and the Housing MarketWhile the Fed’s working hard to lower inflation, the latest data shows that, while the number has improved some, the inflation rate is still higher than the target (2%). A veteran Broward Sheriff’s detective was arrested Tuesday on charges of official misconduct and extortion after an investigation found he had falsified information in numerous sex crime cases and closed the cases without fully investigating them, the Sheriff’s Office said. Det. Demetrious Campbell, 48, has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2002. He is now suspended without pay, and investigators are reviewing many of his cases, Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said in a news release Tuesday evening. Concerns about Campbell surfaced in early April after a sexual...

By ZEKE MILLER, SEUNG MIN KIM, JOSH BOAK and LISA MASCARO (Associated Press) WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and congressional leaders confronted each other on the debt limit impasse Tuesday, ending their meeting with no breakthrough but agreeing to meet again this week to try to avert the looming risk of an unprecedented government default. Jury finds Trump liable for sexual abuse, awards accuser $5M

By LARRY NEUMEISTER, JENNIFER PELTZ and MICHAEL R. SISAK (Associated Press) NEW YORK (AP) — A jury found Donald Trump liable Tuesday for sexually abusing advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996, awarding her $5 million in a judgment that could haunt the former president as he campaigns to regain the White House. The verdict was split: Jurors rejected Carroll’s claim that she was raped, finding Trump responsible for a lesser degree of sexual abuse. The judgment adds to Trump’s legal woes and offers vindication to Carroll, whose allegations had been mocked and dismissed by Trump for years. She...

Why Today’s Housing Market Is Not About To Crash

There’s been some concern lately that the housing market is headed for a crash. And given some of the affordability challenges in the housing market, along with a lot of recession talk in the media, it’s easy enough to understand why that worry has come up.But the data clearly shows today’s market is very different than it was before the housing crash in 2008. Rest assured, this isn’t a repeat of what happened back then. Here’s why. It’s Harder To Get a Loan NowIt was much easier to get a home loan during the lead-up to the 2008 housing crisis than it is today. Back then, banks had different lending...

Hyde5: Lowry, Heat’s bench come up big against Knicks in Game 4 win

On a night the stars on both teams put up numbers, Game 4 was decided by a place the Miami Heat remains surprisingly (and strategically) strong: The bench. The Heat lost Tyler Herro and Victor Oladipo to injury earlier these playoffs. Coach Erik Spoelstra still played 10 players in the Heat’s 109-101 win and the impact was obvious. Heat bench scoring: 32 points. Knicks bench: 10 points. There’s your game, folks. That’s the short answer to why the Heat moved to a 3-1 lead and one win from the Eastern Conference finals. Kyle Lowry continues to be Playoff Kyle, or Healthy Kyle, with 15 points,...
