UCF baseball continues to flex offensive muscles, powering past Miami

As UCF outfielder Andrew Williamson raced home from second base on a bunt single in the fifth inning, all Miami catcher Nolan Johnson could do was shake his head in disbelief.

It was that night for the sophomore, who scored 3 RBIs, including a pair of runs on walks with bases loaded in the second and third innings as the Knights rolled to a 14-4 win over the Hurricanes Tuesday night at John Euliano Park.

UCF (13-3, 0-0 Big 12) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Williamson drove in an RBI on a triple off the left-field wall. He scored on an RBI single by designated hitter Andrew Sundean.

Miami (12-6, 0-0 ACC) tied it in the top of the second as right fielder Derek Williams took an 0-1 pitch from starter Grant Siegel and drove it over the right field wall for a 2-run home run. It was Williams’s third homer of the season and the first long ball given up by Siegel.

The Hurricanes added another run on an error after center fielder DeAmez Ross dropped a fly ball, leading to Johnson scoring an unearned run.

Williamson added another RBI after starter Alex Giroux (2-1) walked him with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second. That sent the right-hander to the bench as coach JD Arteaga brought in reliever Reese Lumpkin.

Sundean stroked a pitch into the gap in left centerfield, scoring second baseman Edian Espinal and catcher Dylan King. Third baseman Braden Calisle added an RBI single to push the Knights’ lead to 6-3.

UCF coach Rich Wallace lifted Siegel in the top of the third after giving up back-to-back hits with no outs. Reliever Dom Castellano (3-0) replaced him. Castellano pitched two innings, striking out three while earning the win.

UCF kicks off spring camp seeking to set new standard

Wiliamson had his third RBI of the game when he was walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third. First baseman Lex Boedicker followed that up with a 2-RBI single to push the advantage to 9-3.

Boedicker would add a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the senior finished 4 of 5 with 6 RBIs.

The Knights outscored their past seven opponents, 94-14, including a 13-3 win over then-No. 6 Florida on March 4.
