Why Homeownership Wins in the Long Run

Today’s higher mortgage rates, inflationary pressures, and concerns about a potential recession have some people questioning: should I still buy a home this year? While it’s true this year has unique challenges for homebuyers, it’s important to think about the long-term benefits of homeownership when making your decision.Consider this: if you know people who bought a home 5, 10, or even 30 years ago, you’re probably going to have a hard time finding someone who regrets their decision. Why is that? The reason is tied to how home values grow with time and how, by extension, that grows your own...

Panthers’ Matthew Tkachuk named to Second All-Star Team, finishes third in Hart Trophy voting

Matthew Tkachuk had a phenomenal first season with the Florida Panthers, but it wasn’t enough to top Edmonton’s superstar Connor McDavid. Tkachuk came up short, finishing third for the Hart Memorial Trophy at the NHL Awards Monday night in Nashville. However, he still earned an accolade as a Second All-Star Team selection. McDavid took home the Hart Trophy, which is given “to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team.” Boston’s David Pastrnak was the third finalist and placed second with 1,053 voting points. Tkachuk recorded 741 and McDavid ran away with it with 1,951. McDavid,...

Trump returns to Michigan with hopes of repeating the battleground success he found in 2016

By JOEY CAPPELLETTI (Associated Press) LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Donald Trump appeared in Michigan on Sunday as he looks to reclaim territory that helped propel him to the White House but slipped from his grasp four years later. Campaigning for a return to the presidency while facing a federal indictment for allegedly mishandling classified documents, Trump spoke in suburban Detroit, where he lost ground between 2016 and 2020 and would need to win it back if he becomes the 2024 Republican nominee. He would have to reverse the recent trend in Michigan that has seen Democrats make some of their biggest...

General Daily Insight for June 26, 2023

General Daily Insight for June 26, 2023 Our emotions currently make for better guides than our logic. The Moon in Libra squares the Sun in Cancer, bringing relationships to the fore, but then Mars will square Uranus, shaking things up and leaving us uncertain of what will happen next. Intelligent Mercury in Gemini will quincunx Pluto, adding a dose of intensity to our wildest ideas, but once the messenger planet steps into Cancer at 8:24 pm EDT, we should be able to recalibrate and come back to our own emotional centers. Russia says Wagner Group’s leader will move to Belarus after his rebellious march challenged Putin

By The Associated Press The greatest challenge to Russian President Vladimir Putin in his more than two decades in power fizzled out relatively peacefully Saturday after the rebellious mercenary commander who ordered his troops to march on Moscow abruptly reached a deal with the Kremlin to go into exile and sounded the retreat. The dramatic if brief revolt shifted the landscape for the Kremlin and the 16-month-old war in Ukraine and prompted Russia to pull soldiers back from the battlefield to defend the capital, a stunning recognition of the threat posed by Wagner Group soldiers under the command...
