Hurricanes safety, former Chaminade star Zaquan Patterson will enter transfer portal
A promising Miami Hurricanes underclassman is planning to enter the transfer portal.
Zaquan Patterson, a former star at Chaminade-Madonna, is entering the portal, sharing the news on his Instagram account. He’s the second UM defender to enter the portal on Monday, joining defensive tackle Joshua Horton.
Patterson played one season at Miami, playing in 11 games and starting one. Patterson notched 19 tackles with three pass breakups while playing 159 total defensive snaps. He had a 66.4 defensive rating from Pro Football Focus.
Patterson was a star at Broward County powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna. He was a South Florida Sun Sentinel Super 11 selection and was rated a four-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. Patterson was listed as the No. 6 safety and No. 93 player in the class.
Both of UM’s starting safeties last year departed this offseason, with Meesh Powell running out of eligibility and Jaden Harris transferring. Miami added one safety in the transfer portal, Jacksonville State standout Zechariah Poyser, which may have opened an opportunity for Patterson to break into the lineup. But Patterson was dealing with an injury during spring camp.
