FPL proposes deal to increase rates — but not by as much as originally sought

TALLAHASSEE — Florida Power & Light and numerous groups and businesses have hammered out a proposed settlement that would increase base electric rates over the next four years — but not by as much as the utility originally sought. The proposed settlement, filed Wednesday at the Florida Public Service Commission, would lead to increases of $945 million in 2026 and $766 million in 2027, according to the utility. FPL also would collect additional amounts in 2028 and 2029 for solar-energy and battery-storage projects. FPL filed a proposal in February that sought increases of $1.545 billion...

Daily Horoscope for August 20, 2025

General Daily Insight for August 20, 2025 Maintaining our autonomy may feel impossible today. While the complex Cancer Moon conjoins appeasing Venus, our longing for approval could be close to the surface. The Moon then shifts into dramatic Leo at 7:17 pm EDT and opposes manipulative Pluto shortly thereafter, setting the stage for epic battles of wills. Following our personal bliss might seem guaranteed to cut us off from the support of our peers. We’ll have to decide how well we can get by without submitting to their judgment! By COREY WILLIAMS and VALERIE GONZALEZ Immigrants seeking a legal pathway to live and work in the United States will now be subject to screening for “anti-Americanism’,” authorities said Tuesday, raising concerns among critics that it gives officers too much leeway in rejecting foreigners based on a subjective judgment. Daily Horoscope for August 19, 2025

General Daily Insight for August 19, 2025 A moody and touchy vibe could leave us unsure where to tread. When the emotional Cancer Moon clashes with impatient Mars, claiming that we’ve followed the rules might not be enough to prevent hurt feelings. Still, as the warm Sun trines wise Chiron at 1:29 pm EDT, resolution may ultimately come from whatever conflicts burst onto the scene — which are likely about much more than their initial provocations. The Moon goes on to conjoin abundant Jupiter, adding to the potential for optimism. Aries March 21 – April 19 Sharing about an insecurity today...

Daily Horoscope for August 18, 2025

General Daily Insight for August 18, 2025 Our feelings may need to have a say today, but they shouldn’t be the only voices we consider. As insightful Mercury sextiles decisive Mars at 1:33 am EDT, we’ll probably want to take action instead of talking in circles indefinitely. This might step on some toes. As the emotional Moon moves into sensitive Cancer and pushes at unsympathetic Saturn, we could feel the pain! We’ll have to be careful to separate discomfort that should pass from problems that genuinely must be addressed. Aries March 21 – April 19 Feeling isolated is presently...

What we learned from Dolphins’ joint practices, preseason game vs. Lions

DETROIT — The Miami Dolphins finally traded their views of the Great Lakes for a return near the Atlantic Ocean, and they came back with a 24-17 preseason win over the Detroit Lions. Now, that’s no indication the Dolphins are anywhere near on par with the Super Bowl-contending Lions. It was mostly backups against backups in Saturday’s exhibition at Ford Field, and Detroit first-teamers certainly showed they have a leg up on Miami in the week’s two joint practices. But there was a lot to grasp from the week in Michigan and potential for growth for the Dolphins in preparation for the regular...
