Inter Miami blow two second-half leads, but salvage third consecutive draw ahead of coaching switch

There was no fairytale ending for Javier Morales on Saturday night. But to his credit, he’s now led Inter Miami to points in three consecutive games. The interim head coach was given one last game before Tata Martino officially takes over and he slides back to his assistant job, and it ended in a 2-2 draw at D.C. United. Inter Miami held two separate leads in the second half, but failed to hold onto each of them. Midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi and defender Noah Allen each scored their first career MLS goals to account for Inter Miami’s scoring, but each was answered with a quick D.C. United...

Josef Martinez’s bicycle kick leads Inter Miami to second consecutive draw

FORT LAUDERDALE — Independence Day fireworks filled the sky around DRV PNK Stadium Tuesday night, but they could’ve used some more pink and black to celebrate Josef Martinez’s jaw-dropping goal. The second half substitute scored the equalizer in the 90th minute on a bicycle kick to force an Inter Miami 2-2 draw against the Columbus Crew. It may have been the goal of his career, which is saying something for someone who is now tied for ninth all-time in career MLS goals. Inter Miami interim coach Javier Morales said at Monday’s training that he was unsure if he’d bench Martinez in favor of...

Inter Miami draws Austin FC for first point since May 13, though winless skid stretches to eight

FORT LAUDERDALE — Newly named Inter Miami coach Tata Martino was in the building Saturday night at DRV PNK Stadium. Perhaps it added some extra juice to Inter Miami, but, as he awaits his necessary work documents, he could only watch from a suite as his future club extended its winless streak to eight games. On one hand, the 1-1 draw against Austin FC was Inter Miami’s first point since May 13. But on the other side, it was a disappointing result for an Inter Miami squad — now 5-13-2 and still last in the Eastern Conference — that failed the bury a handful of scoring chances. “I spoke with...

Inter Miami’s road woes continue with 1-0 loss in Montreal

MONTREAL  — Chinonso Offor scored a second-half goal and Jonathan Sirois made it stand up for CF Montreal in a 1-0 victory over Inter Miami on Saturday night. Neither team found the net until Offor took passes from Ariel Lassiter and Gabriele Corbo in the 53rd minute and scored for a third time this season. Sirois finished with five saves to earn the clean sheet for Montreal (6-8-0). Montreal has posted a 7-1-0 record in its last eight home matches and tied a club record with its fourth straight shutout. Montreal had four straight home shutouts spanning the 2018-19 seasons. Inter Miami...

Inter Miami’s U-turn continues as they win their third straight game after six-match losing skid

FORT LAUDERDALE — David Ruiz had a goal and an assist on Josef Martínez’s go-ahead score before picking up a red card to help Inter Miami hold off the Eastern Conference-leading New England Revolution 2-1 on Saturday night. Ruiz staked Inter Miami (5-6-0) to an early lead when he took a pass from Leonardo Campana and scored in the 6th minute. It was the first career goal for the 19-year-old rookie midfielder. New England (7-2-3) thought it had scored the equalizer on a goal by 18-year-old midfielder Noel Buck in the 17th minute but it was disallowed because of an offside foul. Instead, the...
