MIAMI GARDENS — The first time New York Jets standout wide receiver Garrett Wilson had a pass thrown his way Sunday was in the third quarter, and Miami Dolphins All Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey was there to knock the ball away.
Ramsey, who shadowed Wilson and covered him like a blanket all day, got up talking trash to the Jets sideline. He was justified. He balled out.
Ramsey, who ended up with no tackles and one pass defended, helped set a stingy, stubborn, determined tone for the Dolphins’ injury-riddled defense, which was missing three-fourths of its starting secondary.
“He was...
New ‘Hard Knocks’ episode chronicles Dolphins’ collapse against Titans, features Alec Ingold and Duke Riley
The fourth episode of HBO series “Hard Knocks” following the Miami Dolphins in-season aired Tuesday night, and for the first time, a Dolphins loss was covered.
The stunning 28-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans on “Monday Night Football” left the team in disbelief after blowing a two-touchdown lead with three minutes left.
Among comments coach Mike McDaniel made to the team in the home Hard Rock Stadium locker room: “That’s going to really hurt, for multiple reasons. Let it hurt. … If that game forces us to go places and play football not here (in the playoffs), so be it… We are about getting...
Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill, Connor Williams injured Monday night vs. Titans
MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins had injuries to star wide receiver Tyreek Hill and starting center Connor Williams in the first quarter of Monday night’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
Hill is questionable to return with an ankle injury while Williams has been ruled out due to his knee.
Hill was injured on a tackle out of bounds that went for a loss. He appeared to be in significant pain holding his left leg while on the ground. He got up, limped at first and then ran back to the Dolphins’ sideline.
Hill had a quick stint in the medical tent before he was back out on the sideline,...
College Football Playoff Committee: ‘Undefeated ’72 Dolphins don’t pass our eye test’ | Commentary
Running off at the typewriter. …
Breaking news: The College Football Playoff Committee has reconvened and has unilaterally decided to go back in time and strip the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins of their perfect season and Super Bowl championship.
“In hindsight,” CFB Playoff Chairman Boob Corrigan says, “the ’72 Dolphins, much like this year’s Florida State team, were just not the same after quarterback Bob Griese broke his leg and was replaced by aging backup Earl Morrall.”
But, Mr. Corrigan, even though the Dolphins were in the bottom half of the league in passing offense back then, they...
Dave Hyde: There’s nobody doing what Dolphins star Tyreek Hill is doing
LANDOVER, Maryland — The day that landed Tyreek Hill squarely in the NFL’s Most Valuable Player race began with a simple eye contact with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
“We just looked at each other,” he said.
Actually, it didn’t begin there. It began in one of those thankless hours of video work where coaches look for an opponent’s tendencies to attack. Mike McDaniel and his staff found one they put into quick use Sunday afternoon.
If they put running back De’Von Achane in motion to a receiving slot on the right side, Washington linebacker Jamin Davis would move to cover him....
Chris Perkins: Dolphins are winning and having fun, and coach Mike McDaniel is a big reason for both
MIAMI GARDENS — The Dolphins lead the league in offense, points, and fun.
Yeah, you read that one correctly. Fun.
In short, the first-place Dolphins (8-3) are mixing business with pleasure in a way that’s hardly ever seen in the NFL. They’re always laughing and joking and smiling.
“I feel like we have more fun than any other team in the NFL from meeting with a couple of guys on different teams and asking around and talking,” running back Jeff Wilson Jr. said. “I’m not going to put any names out there, but I feel we have one of the most fun teams to be on.
“But we’re still about business....
Chris Perkins: Things to watch for in Miami Dolphins-Washington Commanders matchup
MIAMI GARDENS — More power seems to be coming to the Miami Dolphins’ high-powered offense for Sunday’s game at the Washington Commanders.
Rookie running back De’Von Achane, the dynamic big-play threat who averages 11.8 yards per carry, seems on schedule to return from his right knee ailment.
Beyond that, there’s a chance fellow rookie running back Chris Brooks (knee) also returns. Brooks would provide an option for short-yardage situations, one of the few shortcomings for Miami’s offense this season.
But there might be a balance for the returnees in the form of absences.
Miami will keep an...
Second ‘Hard Knocks’ episode tracking Dolphins features inside look at Jaelan Phillips’ Achilles injury
Miami Dolphins edge defender Jaelan Phillips’ Achilles injury suffered in Friday’s win over the New York Jets was a focal point of Tuesday night’s second episode of HBO reality series “Hard Knocks” following the team for the remainder of the season.
Phillips knew immediately that he tore his Achilles on his takeoff on a fourth-quarter pass rush at MetLife Stadium.
“I think my (expletive) popped, my Achilles,” the cameras and microphones captured Phillips saying. “It felt like someone (expletive) shot me in my (expletive) Achilles. I thought someone like stepped on me.”
Cameras showed...
Dolphins reportedly expected to sign veteran edge rusher, Deerfield Beach native Jason Pierre-Paul
The Miami Dolphins were expected to add a pass rusher after Jaelan Phillips’ season-ending Achilles tear.
It appears that addition will come in the form of veteran Jason Pierre-Paul, a three-time Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl champion and South Florida native.
Pierre-Paul, currently a member of the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad, is reportedly expected to sign with the Dolphins’ active roster, according to NFL Network on Monday night. He later posted, in part, on Instagram: “I’M COMING HOME,” with a dolphin emoji.
Pierre-Paul, who turns 35 on Jan. 1, has 94 1/2 career sacks in 180 NFL...
Chris Perkins: Dolphins win by playing tough, complementary football — a formula that works in December and beyond
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert didn’t plan on looking at the halftime stats. But he couldn’t avoid it. The stat sheet was right there when he went into the locker room.
It showed eight carries for 15 yards.
Those meager totals didn’t last much longer.
The “finesse” Dolphins (8-3) played big-boy football for the second consecutive week, getting physical on both sides of the ball while playing complementary football.
Miami’s efforts resulted in a 34-13 victory over the struggling New York Jets (4-7) at MetLife Stadium and showed the Dolphins are capable of...
