MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin voters decided Tuesday to enshrine the state’s voter ID law in the state constitution.
The state was also electing its top education official, who will guide policies affecting K-12 schools during President Donald Trump’s second term, will be elected Tuesday in a race between the teachers union-backed incumbent and a Republican-supported critic.
Both contests had sharp partisan divisions, though they have drawn far less spending and national attention than the race for control of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Polls closed at 8...

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The U.S. Naval Academy will no longer consider race, ethnicity or sex as a factor for admission to the service institution, a response to an executive order by President Donald Trump, according to federal court documents made public Friday.
The change in policy was made in February by Vice Adm. Yvette Davids, the academy’s superintendent, in response to an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in January, according to a court filing by the U.S. Justice Department in the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The president’s order...
A woman and three children were shot to death in Pembroke Park on Wednesday night and two people were hospitalized, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said.

One first responder said over radio there were “four plus victims.” The girl who was taken to the...
TALLAHASSEE — In an issue rooted in the 2018 mass shooting at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the Florida House on Wednesday approved repealing a law that prevents people under age 21 from buying rifles and other long guns.
The Republican-controlled House voted 78-34 to pass the bill (HB 759), though it remains unclear whether the Senate will take up the issue. The House passed repeal bills in 2023 and 2024, but they did not get through the Senate.
As in past years, this year’s bill drew heavy — and, at times, emotional — debate.
Then-Gov. Rick Scott and the Legislature in...
A group of 10 Florida judges and court officials have been appointed to serve on a workgroup that will study threats against judges and staff and make security recommendations.
Chief Justice Carlos G. Muñiz signed an administrative order Monday, creating the Workgroup on Judicial Security. The group will submit its findings and recommendations “on threat reduction, threat detection, and threat response,” the order said.
Threats against judges at all levels of the court system have been on the rise for years. The administrative order said the number of verified threats against federal judges...
TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis says he recently returned nearly $1 billion in federal funds, a move he claimed showcased Florida’s leadership role in federal “DOGE efforts.”
But the money in question was either turned down previously or never requested.
“For years, Florida has been trying to return federal funds to the federal government due to the ideological strings attached by the Biden Administration—but they couldn’t even figure out how to accept it,” DeSantis posted on social media late Friday, after meeting with Elon Musk in Washington DC.
In one day, he wrote, “we got this done.”...

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity before an announcement.
Trump has derided the Department of Education as wasteful and polluted by liberal ideology. However, finalizing its dismantling is likely impossible without an act of Congress, which created...
