BOSTON — Vladimir Tarasenko and Carter Verhaeghe scored on the same Bruins double-minor, Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 14 shots and the Florida Panthers beat Boston 6-2 on Friday night and take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinal series.
Evan Rodrigues scored twice, and Brandon Montour also connected for the Panthers, who have won back-to-back games after dropping the opener at home. A 6-1 winner Wednesday night, Florida scored 10 straight goals before Jakub Lauko made it 4-1 early in the third and Jake DeBrusk followed with 11:31 left to make it a...

Three-goal second period gives Bruins Game 1 win over Panthers
SUNRISE — Last time the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers faced off in the postseason, Florida was the scrappy underdog — the eighth seed who came back from a 3-1 deficit to send the Bruins — who notched a record-setting 135 points in the regular season — home earlier than anticipated.
This season, the Panthers were the No. 3 team in the Eastern Conference, one spot ahead of Boston. That made no difference on the ice Monday as the Bruins started this series the way they began last year’s — with a series-opening victory. Boston took a series lead with a 5-1 win at Amerant Bank Arena in...
Dave Hyde: Tampa Bay takes Game 4, but Panthers return home in control of series
Paul Maurice has been around long enough to understand more about some things, like the sorry side of human nature, than he understands about other things, like exactly why the outside conversation changes so dramatically each game in a playoff series.
“The shift outside the room is always far greater than the shift inside the room,’’ the Panthers coach said.
Tampa Bay just staved off summer by beating the Panthers 6-3 in Game 4 of their best-of-seven series. The reasons: Tampa Bay played desperate from the start, the Panthers took too many penalties, future Hall of Famer Steven Stamkos got...
Carter Verhaeghe wins it in overtime for Panthers, Florida takes 2-0 series lead vs. Lightning
By TIM REYNOLDS
SUNRISE — Carter Verhaeghe lifted a backhander just under the crossbar 2:59 into overtime, and the Florida Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Tuesday night for a 2-0 lead in their NHL first-round playoff series.
It was the fifth OT winner in Verhaeghe’s career, coming on a play where Matthew Tkachuk got the puck to Anton Lundell — who found Verhaeghe. He waited for Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy to commit, then put the puck over him to end it.
Sam Bennett, who left with an injury in the second period when he appeared to get hit by teammate Brandon Montour’s...

Carter Verhaeghe and Brandon Montour also scored for Florida, and Anthony Stolarz made 24 saves.
The Panthers will play the Tampa Bay Lightning in the opening round of the playoffs....
Reinhart gets his 55th goal in OT as Panthers top Buffalo, clinch home ice for Round 1
By TIM REYNOLDS (AP Sports Writer)
SUNRISE — All Florida needed was one point to ensure its postseason run would start at home. And once that task was done, Sam Reinhart decided to put an exclamation point on things.
Reinhart got his 55th goal of the season with 1:02 left in overtime, and the Panthers clinched home ice for at least Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs by beating the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 in the next-to-last regular-season game for both teams on Saturday.
“We’re excited about the challenge ahead,” Reinhart said. “It’s starting for real pretty soon. Do what you can to get...
