Palm Beach girls bowler of the year: Angelica Blimegger, West Boca junior

West Boca junior Angelica Blimegger capped off a memorable season with an individual state championship and is the Sun Sentinel Palm Beach girls bowler of the year.

Blimegger is just the second girls bowler from Palm Beach County to capture an FHSAA individual state title. She finished 10th in the girls individual state qualifier with a total of 812 (215-198-201-198). She won five consecutive best-of-three matchups in the girls individual bracket final. She also recorded a personal-high 289 game in high school during the state final.

Blimegger finished as the district runner-up as a freshman. She also placed fourth at the county tournament and finished 46th at states.

As a sophomore, she placed third at districts and fifth at the county tournament. She finished second in the county with a 201 average and placed 28th at the state tournament.

Blimegger delivered an impressive junior season. She recorded a season scoring average of 214, which was the highest among all bowlers in the county. She had the second-highest individual total score at districts with a 546 series. She also had set a record to capture the county championship.

“I improved my overall game this season and I am really thankful to my coaches for their help,” she said. “This year, I was able to stay calm and I tried my best. I was able to keep going. Coach (Scott) Breslow has been there for me and really helped me at states. I appreciate the support from my Dad. I definitely would not have made it this far without his help.”

Blimegger also recognized other coaches on her bowling journey. Don Dubisky and Mark Brooke have both assisted in her development for several years. Daniel Beard, who is the general manager at AMF Boynton Beach Lanes, also has provided support as a coach.

Blimegger has participated in a bowling league at AMF Boynton Beach Lanes for several years.  She also has practiced at Bowlero Boca Raton, where she has bowled a 300, a perfect game.

Blimegger has traveled to previously participate in the Junior Gold Championships at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis. She also won the all-events handicap at the 58th annual Florida State Youth Scholarship Tournament.

“I have a passion for bowling,” she said. “It was a great experience this year and I was proud of myself.”
