SAN DIEGO — Jake Cronenworth drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the seventh, one batter after shortstop Tim Anderson committed his second error of the inning, and the San Diego Padres beat the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Monday.
It was the Padres’ second consecutive home win after losing five straight games at Petco Park.
It was the second day in a row the Padres put together a small-ball rally. They beat the New York Yankees 5-2 on Sunday to avoid being swept in consecutive home series.
“When you get those chances, especially late in the game, those are opportunities that...
MIAMI — Christian Yelich hit a go-ahead two-run triple in the eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Miami Marlins 7-5 on Tuesday night.
William Contreras had two hits and three RBIs, and Willy Adames doubled twice for the NL Central-leading Brewers (28-20).
Trailing 5-4, Jake Bauers doubled against Marlins reliever A.J. Puk (0-5) to lead off the eighth and Contreras drew a two-out walk. Yelich then cleared the bases with a drive to deep right-center that put the Brewers ahead 6-5. Adames’ RBI double scored Yelich and chased Puk.
“I kinda knew that I was probably going to be the...

Christian Bethancourt’s sacrifice bunt against reliever Mitch White (1-1) advanced automatic runner Vidal Brujan to third. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was intentionally walked and stole second. DETROIT — Jesús Sánchez drove in Bryan De La Cruz with a 10th-inning groundout, and the Miami Marlins beat the Detroit Tigers 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Both starters — Miami’s Ryan Weathers and Detroit’s Reese Olson — allowed three singles in a career-best eight innings. Olson struck out six, and Weathers finished with four strikeouts.
“They were both great,” Marlins manager Skip Schumacher said. “Olson was on his game and we couldn’t get the ball off the ground, and I think Weathers was throwing 80% fastball strikes and keeping everything on the ground.”
Olson is 0-4 in eight...

Josh Bell had a pair of RBI singles and Jonah Bride drove in two runs as the Marlins won for the third time in 12 games and avoided a series sweep.
Miami got 14 hits and had eight players with at least one RBI, a stark difference from a day earlier when the Marlins’ bats were mostly muffled in a 20-4 loss to the A’s.
“Super big,” Gordon said. “After last night, to...

“This is something I have always dreamed of and thank God, I am accomplishing it,” Muñoz said in Spanish. “It is very emotional not only for me but my family.”

MIAMI — Dane Myers hit a game-winning single in the 10th inning as the Miami Marlins overcame a five-run deficit and beat Colorado 7-6 on Tuesday night, making the Rockies the first team since 1900 to trail in each of its first 29 games.
Miami (7-24) bounced back from a 5-0 first-inning deficit by scoring five times in the ninth, then rallied from down 6-5 in the 10th and ended a seven-game losing streak.
“For anybody that says that they don’t care, they don’t fight, they don’t work, that kind of proves everyone wrong,” Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said. “The results are the results. I...
MIAMI — The Marlins placed opening day starter Jesús Luzardo on the 15-day injured list Friday because of left elbow tightness.
Luzardo, who was scheduled to pitch the opener of Miami’s four-game series against Washington on Friday, first experienced discomfort during his routine throwing a day earlier. He underwent imaging tests and the results have not been disclosed.
“I felt just felt a little tight more than normal I guess you could say, a tightness I don’t feel normally have before a start,” Luzardo said. “It was more precautionary. I wanted to get ahead of it before something worse...

Luis Arraez, Bryan De La Cruz and Jazz Chisholm Jr. all singled to load the bases. Braves first baseman Matt Olson committed a fielding...
