Dave Hyde: Jalen Ramsey says his game-changing play in Sunday’s Dolphins win is just the beginning

MIAMI GARDEN — Sitting at his new locker, both knees on ice, Jalen Ramsey was handed the phone of teammate DeShon Elliott with a video rolling a half-hour after Sunday’s win. Several other members of the secondary leaned closer to the scene. “OK, let’s see,” Ramsey said. This wasn’t to watch his dramatic introduction to the Miami Dolphins (6-2), Sunday’s game-changing interception of New England quarterback Mac Jones just before half. That football that now sat in his equipment bag beside the shoulder pads with an under-plastic $5 bill attached to them. “That’s me,” he said about the bill, meaning...

Chris Perkins: Admit it … Miami Dolphins have done a good job building this offensive line

MIAMI GARDENS — Tip your hat to the Miami Dolphins’ offensive line. Again. And again. And again. They deserve it. These guys continue to amaze. By now you probably know the offensive line is my favorite unit on this team. What many might not realize, however, is this Dolphins offensive line is good. Admit it.  It’s true. A two-decade wound has found some salve. Credit the Miami Dolphins’ offensive linemen above anyone else. They’re a humble, hard-working group that aren’t looking to collect flowers at this point or issue any “I told you so” proclamations. “We just do what we do on a weekly basis,”...

Jalen Ramsey called his shot for interception in Dolphins debut; Miami has multiple O-line injury concerns heading into Chiefs game

MIAMI GARDENS — One game with the Miami Dolphins, one interception for Jalen Ramsey. The new Dolphins cornerback intercepted New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones in the second quarter of Ramsey’s debut with his new team Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, a 31-17 divisional victory. “It felt good,” said Ramsey, who called his shot that he would have an interception in his first game back after a three-month recovery from a torn meniscus in his left knee. “I told the whole team I was going to get a pick today. I’ve been telling the whole team for a couple weeks that I was going to get a pick my...

Winderman’s view: In defeat, future comes into view for Heat in Minnesota

Observations and other notes of interest from Saturday night’s 106-90 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves: – This was one of those nights when you could see the possibilities if the Heat consistently were in win-now mode. – Nikola Jovic created his moments on the boards and from the 3-point line. – But win-now means minutes instead for Kevin Love, who sat this one out with a shoulder issue. – Jamal Cain showed the type of athleticism this roster otherwise lacks. – But that was with Jimmy Butler taking the night off. – Jaime Jaquez Jr. showed unusual poise for a rookie. – But this is a team that...

Heat fail to measure up, fall 106-90 in Minnesota as Butler, Love sit

Sometimes you just don’t measure up. That proved to be the case Saturday night for the Miami Heat in a 106-90 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center. Against the height, size and bulk of Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert and Naz Reid, the shorthanded Heat quite figuratively came up short. Outscored 58-38 in the paint on a night Towns and Gobert went for double-doubles and Reid for 25 points, the Heat lacked the means to compensate. “That’s what they do,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “They’re very intent on attacking, putting pressure on the paint. They had almost 60 in the paint....

Celtics’ leading men too much for Adebayo, Herro as Heat fall 119-111 in Boston

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra began the day by noting the continuity of the competition, how his team has faced the Boston Celtics in Eastern Conference finals in three of the past four seasons. But Friday night’s game at TD Garden had a decidedly different feel than when the Heat won Game 7 of last season’s East finals, with Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday in Celtics colors and Max Strus and Gabe Vincent missing from the Heat mix that pushed past the Celtics to the NBA Finals last season. The constant, however, remained the competition. With a May-in-October feel to it. So a one-point...

Winderman’s view: Age, rest, geography now Heat’s opponents after loss in Boston?

Observations and other notes of interest from Friday night’s 119-111 loss to the Boston Celtics at TD Garden: – Going to be interesting to see how Erik Spoelstra handles the back end of this first of 13 Heat back-to-back sets this season on Saturday night in Minnesota. – This is, after all, a team that starts 34-year-old Jimmy Butler, 35-year-old Kevin Love and 37-year-old Kyle Lowry. – It also is a team with not much in the way of proven depth behind Love at power forward and Lowry at point guard, albeit with a solid effort Friday from Dru Smith. – Plus, the Timberwolves game is non-conference,...

DeSantis appoints Kevin Tynan, Judge Catalina Avalos to 17th Judicial Circuit openings

Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed former School Board member Kevin Tynan and Judge Catalina Avalos to fill two vacancies in the 17th Judicial Circuit in Broward County. Tynan will step into the role that was left open when Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer, who presided over the trial of the gunman who murdered 17 students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland in 2018, resigned earlier this year. Avalos, who has served as a county judge since 2022, will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Circuit Judge Dale Cohen, the governor’s office said in a news release...
